I purchased a 512mb ASUS Gfx card about 2months ago now, the 512 version of this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-110-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=776

Recently I have been experiencing artifacts occuring in games, such as Crysis SP demo, Timeshift, Bioshock and now some more basic games. I just wanted to confirm i was right in my thoughts, any opinions would be handy. Ive attached an image of Timeshift below.

Am i correct in thinking it is due to overheating?

Many thanks

Tony

Opened the windows, let everything cool down. I then ran Crysis, which has progressively been getting worse, it now no longer loads anything but the floor. When i look up i can see the outline of trees but thats it.

Drivers and everything along those lines have been full uninstalled and reinstalled so i cant see it being an issue with them

give the card a clean?
my 7900gs did this, wasn't so bad after i cleaned it but even then it was back to its worst in a few hours, think i was a memory leak or something, was quite come on the gs

Its a pretty simple card in the way that physically its just a board, heatsink and heatpipe, its nice and clean. The fact that it doesnt have a fan and just a heatpipe is why im quite worried that its overheated, although i do have a 120mm case fan right beside it.

Ive looked at where the heat sink and the card join and there is also still a nice clean blob of paste there.

I will take a second look at it to make sure its clean though.

Does anyone know of anything else it could be bar overheating?

Im running Vista Ultimate also. As you've said in your post however it has been working fine. Ive already got my RMA number etc so im thinking that may be the best approach. Gotta get an anti-static bag first though

Good, the heat is being moved to the heat sink. I think you might need more airflow through your case to exhaust the heat from the system.

What case fans do you have fitted ?.

I have a 120mm case fan on the rear of the case, the CPU is a large heatsink and a fan going to the front of the case through an exhaust system.

Are you suggesting that this could possibly be due to heat currently rather than damage to the card?

Haha no worries. Yeah me thinks so. Going to try one last complete uninstall of drivers then re-install. Then i shall wait for my anti static bags to come through the post and see what happens.

Thanks for the help Jigger, Synixx, Dreadi and Kobrakai.

Will post back when I've RMA'd/sorted it
