4GHZ i7 BUNDLE

Myself and Yewen have done extensive testing over the past few days to ensure that the hardware can pass stress under heavy load

the bundle was left overnight inside a cardboard box to restrict airflow whilst running prime on the cpu and furmark on a gtx 280

the temps were high but simulated a case with bad airflow

in all fairness i would recommend this bundle be put in a case with good airflow
something along the lines of an antec 900

but it has been tested in a worst case scenario environment

i originally specified a noctua cooler - but myself and Yewen noted a massive improvement in cooling performance when using a Fenrir

here is the 14hours screenshot under prime

4ghzbundle.jpg

notice the max temps not even touching 80'c
this is excellent for air cooling

but i must stress that a good case and reliaable power supply is reccommended to get similar results

when all said and done...

this is a seriously BANGRA BUNDLE!!!

Does it blend?
It does indeed! LOL

I have yet to see a d0 chip not make it to 4 ghz on this board
We tried a ud4 but could not get consistant stability

Originally I went for the noctua cooler as it looks pretty, but load temps were a little too high, admittedly the fenrir is a little noisier than the noctua, but in my opinion the cooling performance is unrivalled.

Originally we were going to use 1866 OCD reaper as I have that ram in my own system and am quite keen on it
But using my settings, the memory doesn't run at it's rated speed so I chose the 1600 Kingston kit, it's fast, reliable and more than enough for this system.

I am 100% confident in this bundle as I have wanted to get some bundles with extreme speeds out for a while

I can't give away the settings unfortunatly as that defeats the point of the bundle

For a speed of 4ghz I would be aiming for 1.3 as a ballpark, then experiment in that area. If you need any more info, post in my 4.66ghz overclock thread
:)

the long and short of it is, I have tried the cheaper boards, whilst 4ghz is achievable, it is made a little harder. For instance, with this bundle Yewen suggested the UD4 as the board. whilst being a great board, the chipset cooling pipes got very hot, very quickly. The UD5 was only a little warm after 14 hrs of prime! the difference in quality/price is apparant with other manufacturers too

I had the p6t deluxe, the quality of the board was far superior to the p6t vanilla that my colleague opted for.

The way I found was easiest with the cheaper boards was to find a nice bclk freq that your board can do and then adjust your voltages from there work around 1.3 for CPU and 1.325 for the qpi. (dependant on your ram)

I can't really give specific settings without knowing all about the hardware you have
I don't like to give away too much as it would male my job obsolete

so sell it - or ask the sales team to remove it for you over the phone

i dont open the cooler from the blister pack

@alexhull - the noctua is easliy the quietest
but the fenrir does outperform it

tbh though - my dimas tech bench at work runs a C0 chip at 4.2 using a noctua with a delta fan on it

and it performs very nicely

i made the clock so that you get a balance of power saving and high performance when both are needed

hope its going ok for you :)

It hits 4ghz under load, if you run a game or intensive program then you get the benefits.

The kits are all stability tested by myself

I only clock i7 chips with HT enabled. Turning it off means you may as well have a q6600

I would leave the kit as it is, changing parts could affect the performance. As I have not tested with different fans then I can't give you a definate answer, I would avoid the coolermaster heatsinks, they are nowhere near as good as the fenrir

In answer to the question above, I would reccomend a 650w corsair psu, and perhaps a 1gb 4870 or a 4890

every D0 chip will do 4ghz - you just need a good motherboard

for instance one of my colleagues has a UD3R that he cant get his D0 above 3.8 on

but i have yet to see a D0 on a rampage/UD5/etc that wont do 4GHz easily

the problem with i7 is that it isnt really dependant on the quality of the chips for clocking

the quality of the chips determines how well the memory controller works
if you get one with a good memory controller then it will clock the memory well

but the board is ultimatly the deciding factor in how well a chip clocks

that is why i specified the UD5 for this bundle

we were going to use the UD4 but could not get 4ghz easily and consistantly

HT is left on but can be turned off and saved into one of the other profiles

turbo mode is on but you could increase your BCLK to 200 and turn it off without adverse affects [you would have to test this yourself

that PSU will be more than sufficient

Intel design the chips to run at full load 24/7 for 20+ years
We wouldn't be able to offer the bundle if it were to become unstable or damage the hardware

there is nothing to be concerned about with these temps

we wouldnt be able to sell the bundle if it wasnt within the hardware's capabilities

no - the kit is tested for 6gb of ram

i have managed a 4ghz overclock with 12gb of ram before

but it was very expensive ram
and on a very good board

with a chip that had a very good memory controller

so in a word - no

Thanks for the reply.

Off the record, what would I have to lower the clock to, to get 12GB stable?

Might buy it anyway and if needs be run it at stock settings for a while. Not that I need all that power. :p

i could probably get in the region of 3.8

if you wanted this you should call sales

tell them you have spoken with me on the forums and to add another kit of ram to the bundle

i will then see how high i can get it
but obviously cant give a set in stone answer without testing

we have loads of builds on due to the backlog from the move - i am getting them out as quick as i can guys :)

yes - i got the system to 3GHz stable for 14hrs using linpack to stress

it was shipped to you this morning :)

We have had a lot of customers asking why their bundles are not stable in the past few days, we have notes that the common problem is that people are trying to use the bundle with an insufficiant power supply.

I must stress... If you are considering a purchase, please ensure that your power supply is powerful enough to run the bundle and your graphics card of choice.

I reccomend a 650w corsair or better as the minimum
