as for the poster with the high temp problems

those temperatures are way to high
i would reseat the cooler and use a little more thermal paste to fill the gaps at the contact plate of the fenrir

the best thing to do is post in the customer service technical support forum and i will try to help you out

all the 4ghz bundles get a lot of time stress testing so it worries me when customers are having issues

for everyone having high temperature issues, - the cooler should keep the cpu temp at around 80'c under prolonged load [well within the thermal limit of any i7 chip]

if you are getting temperatures higher than that try reseating your fenrir

as the contact plate is not flat - you need to use enough thermal compound to fill the gaps where the heatpipes are

have you got it in the pwm header?

and have you had it under constant load?

when its under load for a bit it tends to spin up

probably due to a stock shortage

we have to swap items with an equivalent or better [price wise]

imo the noctua is the more desirable cooler

make sure you get a nice thin layer of TIM for a good mount and you should see some great results

And thats fine I just wondered why you had shipped a more expensive HSF, not that I was complaining , I think I need to redo the TIM on the CPU as that might be the reson for the higher temps....

no problem - did you recieve your tube of arctic silver with the bundle or are you using the noctua supplied TIM

if you didnt get your arctic silver - hit me up in the customer support/technical forum and i will get one to you - its much better than the noctua stuff

Seeing such hi temps takes a bit of getting used to.. Im coming from a dual core amd background and always tried to keep my temps well in the 40s and low 50s....

As pointed out 80c is reached under prolonged stress, and is not likely to be encountered during normal useage.. Although the hot days we have just had certainly didnt help... I saw my temps drop 5c on the cooler days...

Im loving this bundle, great value, even if I never will utilise the true potential of the i7..

will a corsair HX620W be powerful enough to run this bundle with 8 hard drives, one optical drive, a few usb devices and a decent graphics card like the 4870X2 or a high end Nvidia card? If not, which quiet PSU would you recommend?

i dont know - maybe

i would personally look at a 750w+ corsair/bequiet/coolermaster/seasonic

with those hard drives it could be a problem

Haven't read the whole thread but this worried me.

I have the 775 variant of the Noctua, and it doesn't have TIM pre-applied. I don't wish to insult your intelligence, but I think there was a sheet of plastic on the base of my Noctua to prevent it from getting scraped/dusty in transit.

RJK, can you tell me if it's the same for the LGA1366 ones? If so, Dashik may have a bit of plastic where only his Arctic Silver should be....

best case scenario, I am mistaken. Worst case scenario you find out why yoru temps are a bit skewiff....
Besides, gives you an excuse to re-apply the AS5 a bit thinner. You really don't need much - spread it out using the heatsink and make sure it's an even, thin covering.

Fenrir is a different kettle of carp, I'm looking forward to sticking my finger in a plastic bag to fill in the heatpipe gaps, I don't think!
