Overwatch

So, after FINALLY completing all of my placement matches (every one of which we lost), I was put in at rank 28. I fought all weekend and managed to toil my way up to rank 33 last night!

Not a high rank, think I'm still playing alongside mostly average players. But my win to loss ratio seemed to be pretty good, maybe 4 out of every 5 matches won.

It's great to see how much the dynamic of the game shifts from casual to competitive. Though I did get tired of playing alongside and picking pretty much the same characters each time. Maybe it will change the higher I get, but having a Lucio/Rein/Tracer combo seems to be absolutely essential to success at the moment, regardless of whether your on defence or attack.

It's true that a good Tracer can be a real problem for a team, blinking around, flanking and causing havok.

A good Roadhog will keep shutting her down with chain-hooks though.

Lucio + Zenyatta seems to be the default healer stack in games I play.
Reinheart is generally always useful, but any combo of 2x tanks can be good in the right hands.

Really want to get into this but seemingly every game I end up on a team where nobody will pick healer. Now sure I like playing Mercy and Lucio, but I feel forced into it practically every game and it's getting boring... if I say screw this and play what I want it seems like a default loss and nobody will change. Is it just me?

I feel the same way mate so it isn't just you.

I only play comp. now with a bunch of mates, ideally the more the better. With solo queue on comp. I feel like I have to play always play a healer as no one on my team will. But then the players who go DPS are either abysmal or have no clue how to play. Plus no one ever seems to join team voice chat!

It's weird how different players, even within the same country can experience a totally different meta sometimes.

Healers are never a problem for me whenever I queue up. Always someone willing to change or will default to Lucio. Tanks on the other hand... people seem to think that it's to much responsibility, forgetting that in Overwatch ANY character can be the weak link.

Tanking "OK" is harder than healing "OK" or DPS "OK" in my opinion.

There's less feedback and it's just harder to know what you could have done (something as simple as walking back ~5 steps or using an ability 2 seconds later can be the difference between living and wiping).

Doing any of them well (or excellently) still requires loads of practice, skill and so on, but I feel that the floor for tanks is a bit higher.

That said, if you're in quick play, play what you want (be willing to chat to teammates and discuss it, but don't pick a class you don't want to play just for them). I've won QP games with no tanks or healers before, to my considerable surprise. If you want to practice with Mei, just choose her. And if someone on your team whines a lot about it, use your ice wall to trap them in a small room with the enemy team.

If you feel really bad about it, you can use 'custom game' to practice against bots, but I wouldn't bother. QP all the way.

Was experimenting on quick play last night, Zenyata and Ana could be a pretty decent heal combo alternative to Lucio/Zen.

I'll echo what others have said above, 90% of my comp games I've ended up as healer but then I play with a 3-5 man premade and we've gotten into our respective strengths so I like it.

Hey!

Anyone interested in grouping for some Comp or Quick Play?

Was placed at 59 but deranked to 50 due to SolOQ, looking for a nice team to play with!

D Va/Mercy/Junk are my strong points.

Had a mega game on Kings Road earlier as D Va. Think I ended up with 53 kills or something and 54% of all team damage thanks to a nice Zarya Graviton Surge catching all 6 of the opponents and me flinging my Self-Destruct into the middle of it!!

Yeah zarya wombo combos are too good. She's an essential pick imo.

Zarya, lucio, zenyatta, mccree, and then the other tank and dps picks are down to enemy comp and objective.

Just had a hilarious game where all 6 of us at the begininng decided to go Bastion without any communication to do so and made a massive gattling gun on an upper walkway. Everyone was loling in chat haha!

I was thinking last night, does anyone else think Junkrats trap needs a nerf? I play Tracer a lot and obviously the trap is one of her hard counters, but it does seem to hold you for the most ridiculous amount of time regardless who your playing and the fact it does damage too...

Junkrat just annoys me, not sure why, mind you most heroes do when they get the better of me :p

He's one of my favourite heroes and I'll always try to default to him on defence if I can, but I'll be the first to admit his presence can be a massive nuisance to the point of being rage inducing.

Quickplay is now for practicing a hero you are weak on. Or for stacks to have a laugh with "insert 5/6 of the same hero here"

If you want to play properly go to competitive.

Thankfully season 2 is looking loads better and might drag me into playing Overwatch more.

Quickplay is for anything fun - practicing a new hero, silly stacks, achievement hunting, playing the objective in a casual manner, playing with friends who have wildly different rating than you... Anything goes pretty much.
