Overwatch

Competitive struggles are certainly real! Just had a quick game, I only played Widow as I was doing well with her (she's my main), 48 eliminations and top damage. Both gold. Yet there is always some little kid know it all screaming "REPORT, WIDOW NOT CHANGE!!!"... Half my team were telling this idiot to shut up as I had double his elims and he was playing reaper and kept changing. Why don't they get it? Seriously?

I think from this point onwards, I'm turning both text and voice chat. Had enough of these kids that watch streamers in master or higher and think they know it all.

I've played competitive for a long time now with chat turned off, and voice comms volume set to zero. We use TeamSpeak for voice chat, then I don't have to listen to 12 year olds (mental age) screaming about choices or plays.

I just want to climb out of these low ranks ASAP :( Back to where teams actually don't question anything unless you start to **** up.

I had that over the weekend, so many kids screaming - some of them were "high", had to mute them.

We can group up, i usually play evenings, we have already 3 ppl in group.

Sure, if you don't mind a Widow main with Mei/Zen as alternatives.

AndyCr15 :) (and in game = AndyCr15#2763)

As I say, I wouldn't want to team with someone not using comms. I'm not saying I use it all the time, but I need to know we can at least talk about things that might be going on.

Don't quite understand the "turn off all comms end of story" mentality here. Surely you only hinder yourself by permanently disabling? If you get a little kid or someone annoying, mute them individually. If you get someone who actually does call out enemies or other useful stuff, you're cutting yourself off.

It's like, sure there are bad drivers out there who don't indicate on the roads. Does that mean you would disable all indicators on all cars because of those who don't use them properly?

I play for enjoyment and want to enjoy ranked. I don't find it enjoyable to be insulted for playing what somebody else disagrees with. If that's hindering myself then I'm happy to hinder myself. I don't want to mute people individually, I can't be bothered blocking some child every other game. Easiest to block everybody and chat with friends who don't act like children, and get on with enjoying the game. The same as I assume you do with your voice comms left on, each to their own. Your analogy isn't the same at all.

I don't mute but I think what people are saying is that the chat is not helpful anyway...

So they're not getting anything helpful from the chat but are getting all the toxicity.

But it also hinders the team, that's my issue. I could probably count on one hand how many times I've had someone real toxic, that bothered me, in the 400 odd hours I've played. It does make me wonder what you guys do, to draw out the toxicity...

I've never paid much attention, can we see who's muted comms? I guess I should just start blocking them.

This is the way I feel about it too...

Andy I did used to think having no comms was hindering the team but over time I realised the only people listening or communicating in any useful way were the people I was already in Discord with... the majority of games I also had the in-game chat on just meant I was struggling to hear my actual, useful team-mates over a bunch of children (or man-children) having a paddy whenever the game wasn't a total one-sided cakewalk in our favour

I'd pretty much only played free play or competitive since this was released, but decided to try a couple of other game modes. Played quite a lot of capture the flag last week, on the whole I quite enjoyed it, bit hit and miss with some really good games and some really bad ones but quite good fun. This week I've been playing mystery heroes, the game mode where you don't get to pick your hero and it changes each time you die, and I'm finding this great fun, gets you to try heroes you rarely bother with and I've not come across any toxic players, I guess nobody can complain at your pick or that you're bad at playing the hero you've not chosen. There is a real randomness to it as you can win/loose just depending on the heroes you end up with, but the most fun I've had with this game in a while.

Edit - okay ignore the bit about no toxic players in that mode, just encountered one raging at me for being ****.
