Double shield meta is tedious, though it is interesting how it has fuelled a Bastion revival, which can be very effective provided the whole team gets onboard. I've been thinking about learning Winston to get around the shield meta.

I'm a tank main and Winston is by far my best and favourite hero and unfortunately my advice is: don't bother most of the time, for now at least... it is effective against the double shields and against Sig-Zarya, but Reaper and Mei are both just way too strong and prevalent at the moment which usually severely limits how effective you can be
 
I wasn't sure about Mei, but Reaper is certainly a hard counter to Winston (I mainly play Reaper if DPS, and rub hands with glee vs Winston). As is often the case with OW, don't blindly pick a hero without considering the other team picks.
 
Compare how fun Winston is to play to Orisa. Think I fell asleep once as Orisa just shooting shields. There needs to be a pretty big balance patch after 222 came in as as @uncle_rufus says, Winston is a throw pick at the moment.
 
Doomfist is sooo strong at the moment....Twice today the opposition has literally been carried by a Doomfist.... Not a lot you can do as support to help counter (brig but then you lack the outright heals, ana for the sleeps but you need to be very good!)

Pushing my Support account back over 2700 again but it's hard to get it much further at the moment.
 
Doomfist definitely needs tweaking. He can one hit nearly everyone apart from tanks, through shields as well, has huge mobility and personal shields.

Nothing you can do as a support when you see a decent Doomfist fall from the sky into your
backlines.

No surprise that DF is insta-pick at high levels. He is a hard hero to be good at, so mixed experiences at lower levels, but still seen many carries. DF pocketed by Mercy is particularly nasty.

As a support, Moira can dodge with fade (I think Moira is a must pick right now). While Zen is a sitting duck, his discord orb is good to counter the DF constantly building shield. I suppose Mercy has mobility with GA, but I'm not convinced it is fast enough. Best counter to DF is Sombra, followed by Hog if you are good with the hook, and probably Mei.
 
1st big balance patch just hit PTR. Winston and DVa buffs, Doom, Sigma, Orisa nerfs.

  • Now has a 1 second cooldown after recalling the barrier
  • Initial 0.2 second cast time removed

  • Duration increased from 6 to 9 seconds

  • Health decreased from 250 to 200

  • Speed boost’s effect increased from 20% to 25%

  • Self-healing reduced from 30 to 20 health per second

  • Health reduced from 5000 to 4000
Sentry Turret

  • Damage per second reduced from 50 to 40
Photon Projector

  • Players impacted by the primary fire beam should now hear a louder impact sound
Tracer

Pulse Pistols

  • Damage falloff now starts at 13 meters, up from 10 meters
 
A few okay changes there but why on earth have Mei and Reaper escaped totally unscathed? Also they've nerfed Sigma into the ground; he's going to go from pretty reasonable to totally unplayable due to that cooldown after shield recalling... at least double-shield will stop I suppose but it seems like the Lucio/Rein combo being back and making Winston/Dva stronger again would be enough to disrupt double-shield without completely gimping Sigma

I was bored of playing sigma anyway. He is fairly braindead to play.

I still think rein is one of the best characters in the game.

From his utility and how he plays, right down to his design, voice, skins and lore.

I'm concentrating on off tank this season, bored to death of people not knowing how to play with their main tank.

Also match making for tanks is mess at the moment (solo Q). Been throwen into some games with low gold DPS and been put up against high diamond DPS for example all to cut down on DPS queue times as there is a lack of tank players. These games as you expect were horribly imbalanced.
 
Agreed, definitely not enjoiyng my games at low diamond tank level, DPS are either god tier or **** tier it seems and its a ******** whether my tank partner deserves to be diamond or is actually a diamond support/dps who can't play tanks but hasn't ranked down yet.
 
On those PTR changes, Doomfist needed that nerf hard and honestly, Reaper needs his sustain reduced, his teleport buff was huge and that made him more viable, the previous buffs to his self-heal needs a slight reduction. I think it is 30% at the moment, needs knocking down to 25%. Reaper at lower ranks is supremely powerful.

Disagree on Mei, she is fine, she's not oppressive, there are counters for her and she's not as awful to play against as Doomfist, Sombra, Bastion, or Reaper in my opinion.

I agree she's not as bad as those others (Sombra debatable) but when I say nerf I really just mean backing-out on the change to her freeze (i.e. when they wanted to make her anti-goats and changed her freeze so that it would freeze all enemies rather than just the nearest one to her)

In fact that goes for most of the changes I'd like to see tbh - everything they did explicitly to try and stop goats should be rolled back now; the Dva and Lucio nerfs (now sort of fixed), the insane amount of buffs to Reaper, the above buff to mei... there are a bunch of others but most of the anti-goats buffs are things which made all matches where goats wasn't a thing (which is now just all matches thanks to 2-2-2) worse

I was messing about in comp with mei earlier today and thought her freeze felt better.

Didn't realise that it had ever got changed, I must have missed that one.

She is fun to play right now. DPS que times give me chance to tidy up while it's searching
