Overwatch

Just getting back into a bit of OW.
Lvl 26 or something, I play many other games.

I like the idea of playing ranked, but not solo. It's a team game, so organization really is key.
Does anyone fancy tagging along with me, or need space for me to join in?
I'm competent at fps's, and know the character designs very well.

I'm having horribly frequent disconnects from the server as I get RTT lag. Coming out and back into the game helps for a few minutes then I get booted again.

Going to have to do an intense trouble shooting session, seems like others are affected by this as well but there is no clear definitive solution.

Enfuriating comp games last night, a Reinhardt (and others on the team) who would just run off after enemies instead of moving the payload being the low point.

A guy playing Hanzo yelling that we needed a healer being another, it's often like that though, everyone knows we need a second healer but nobody wants to roll it :p

Yes, it is strange that people complain that the team comp isn't right but they won't switch themselves.

I think this is what happens in competitive games though. People see pro strats and think that they have an expert knowledge of the game. Frankly, everyone in my team is mid 2000s in SR, we are not pros. Everyone should stop insulting each other and just get on with improving their play.

To be fair, this happens quite rarely and its not actually that toxic, but its such a bizarre mindset to have anyway.

^^ I agree in principle, and generally I will always try and switch to fill in what the team needs (which very often is support, sometimes a tank, and almost never anything else) but the problem is you can never know the history behind each person or group coming into that particular game with you...

For instance like I said I'm happy to play supports when needed - but if I just came out of a game as Lucio, played my rear-end off trying to do everything I could but we keep getting destroyed by a good Pharah and none of the dps would switch to counter her... so I spent the whole game looking on relatively helpless as our dps failed to achieve anything etc... the next game there's going to be a big part of me that wants to insta-lock a dps just so that at least if the next game is another crushing loss I will have had the chance to make a proper impact...

(Of course some players are just genuinely so pig-headed they think they're the best player ever and playing anything other than dps is beneath them...)

I have at least 2 characters in each class that I would say I am good with so I always switch to fill a role. Hell, when i am DPS and have played terribly I offer up the role to others in the hopes they have better luck.

But it is difficult sometimes watching someone play a character you KNOW you can play better and not get frustrated. For me it isn't so much the DPS but the second offensive healer (Ana & Zen) as in my experience these characters can really make or break a team, more so than any other charaters, and they are so often played poorly. When I am forced to pick Mercy or Lucio and the chap playing zen is terrible it is so damn annoying!

Two wins last night in comp. One was a relatively close match solo-queue. The second I queued with a friend who's a higher rank, got put in a game where I was the lowest rank by some considerable margin. We defended Eichenwalde strongly enough that the opponents never captured the payload. Won the attack in one push.

I have no idea how it happened. I can only assume nobody on the enemy team wanted to switch characters/change tactics, as we had a very strong choke defense but they literally never tried to flank us, not once.

Won 2 lost 1 last night for me... but also got probably my favourite POTM ever...

As Pharah on Ilios Well... the POTM opens as I'm flying above the big hole in the middle and I kill my jets diving down into the hole as the whole enemy team round the corner from their spawn and begin engaging with some of our team-mates... As I drop I just narrowly miss a Roadhog hook aimed at me... then I hit the jet boost to fly back up ready to Ult.... Just at that moment our Ana decided to nano-boost Winston, but as I flew out of the hole I got in the way and the boost went to me, resulting in a team-wiping ana-boosted Pharah ult :D It all happened so fast but it was awesome :P

sigh... Another fun round of abusive comp.

I died as Ana, and while running back to the point got my last 1% ult charge and it popped up ready.

Cue voice comms of a weird Russian-sounding teen "F*ck Ana use your ******* ult, you so ****!"

There was nobody in my line of sight.
I waited till we regrouped then used it on Rein for a big push, and though nothing of it.

This went on to happen two more times (him yelling at me to use my ult when I either couldn't or when it would be a waste).

The third time I saw which name popped up for voice comms. It was our attack Hanzo.

He was really abusive and annoying, to everyone but particularly me. it was king's row, and both teams made 3 points. There was less than a 5 second time gap between us. In the extra time they got 2 points and we lost about 2m shy of the 2nd point. It was as close to a tie as it could be. Could have been a great game if I'd muted him earlier.

The World Cup started yesterday and I ended up watching a few games live on YouTube, great entertainment. Quite hard to follow at times but very interesting.

This morning I watch UK v Finland which was quite fun as both teams just abused each other through most of the game (in a fun way)

No, the actual event started last night and I watched USA, I forget who against(Spain?) then Russia v Germany.

The game I posted above is a qualifier that was recommended for its humor.

From the depths of 1820 rating to currently 2390.

Enjoying myself as D Va at the moment - had one game over the weekend with 29k damage, 58 kills and 21k block.

Had some great teams over the weekend who communicated, switched up etc. really good and nice to play with.

lol - now lost last 7 in a row!!!:p

I'm slowly climbing, playing mainly as Ana and doing my best to heal, call threats and make sure I'm positioned safely. Seems to be working - steady improvement in results.

Had a win run cut short by someone who's apparently a grandmaster/'pro genji' smurfing on the other team yesterday - a few folks on my side recognised the alt account name immediately and said to watch him. Frankly he could have beaten any of my team members (me included) 3-on-1 without apparent effort.

Amazing play to watch, but somewhat frustrating to encounter at 2400 ranking. Two of our guys dropped about 1 minute in, and it was clear we'd lost, so everyone else spent the rest of the round messing about and chatting in match chat. All very good natured and fun, despite the annoyance. We all went DPS and tried to off him with inappropriate picks. I managed one kill (as soldier 76) for about 9 deaths.

edit:

After several really close and fun rounds last night I'm up to 5 points away from a rank up. We won with attack bastion on Dorado. The guy came on mic and said "I know it's not the usual, but trust me on this, let me build ult once and combo with ana". We pushed the standard way up to the entrance to the facility, then did the combo ult and wiped their team in a few seconds. He zoomed up to the door to their spawn and set up in turret mode, I kept him up for the 5-6 seconds Rein took to catch up and shield him and the enemy players just got mown down several times in a row. Quite a brutal play. I imagine at higher rank it wouldn't be anything like as effective, with people more readily able to counter the bastion with a quick genji swap/sleep dart.
