Overwatch

Played this for a hour last night and it's great fun none of my friends list playing so if anyone on Xbox would like to play with a noob just add me :D

12 maps
3 game modes
21 Heroes

Seems very little for amount of money, when it plays like TF2 thats free with more maps and game modes.

why is overwatch getting such great comments when other games with same or more content are being ripped apart?

Well had an hour or so on this yesterday and it is a hoot.

Although I played a few games against the AI it was fun just to get used to the mechanics of the games (having no zoom option is throwing me)

I think a few more AI based games and I should be ready to take on people but I need to get to understand the abilities of the heroes a little better as well as remember to not keep tapping left trigger for zooming :D

I'm yet to find a hero that I think I can use this as my primary hero as I know I will need to get used to one of each type to help the team succeed.

It certainly has that TF2 feel about it and it was the first thing that instantly came to mind when I saw the reveal trailer at Blizcon back in 2014.

As a "new" style of game for Blizzard it seems to have been done well. It all depends on if this has the staying power of the other fps's out there. I am guessing this will have some form of e-sports league system in place at some point and if Blizzard do have a path to include new updates in the form of game modes, maps, content creators etc. then it should have some staying power.

I would rather a game be limited in scope and done well to start off with rather than give us "the moon on a stick" and done poorly. The game seems smooth and plays well although at a crazy fast pace (but I guess I will get used to that) so should be fun when playing with friends.

I wrote this on my forum, this is a copy pasta.

Let me start bt saying that you will struggle to have more fun in a game. Honestly, the variety of heroes and and environments make for some of the most intense and entertaining fighting I've had in years.

That said:

Characters:

These are the guys that make this game. They're all psycho in some form or another and they're absolutely mental. They all have different abilities which make them unique, there are four classes: damage dealers, tanks, healers and support, each with about 6 heroes to play. Coming up against a well balanced team is a nightmare, you don't stand a chance with a bunch of randoms. The variety of weaponry and abilities in this game is cray cray. I'm not talking about different guns, but different types of weapons altogether. You think of a way to kill someone, odds are it's in the game.

Environment / maps:

Blizzard is so good at this. These maps are fantastic, nicely sized, vibrant colours, loads of paths and corridors, you can go upstairs, downstairs, across rooftops, the lot. They provide some seriously hectic matches because you never know where you're gonna get shot / axed / hammered / chained / electrocuted / frozen / burned / yanked / stabbed / ninja starred / sniped from (I think you get the idea). The maps are also dedicated to game modes, so you won't be playing different game modes on the same map.

Game modes:

There are a fair few, from an escort type to a king of the hill type, they're all there. It seems that Blizzard has just blatantly nicked ideas from every other game out there and perfected them to create this game.

Combat:

Fantastic. The action gets seriously intense and it's never dull. There are already quite a few cheap tactics in the game like turrets staring at spawn rooms and whatnot but there are loads of counters and and changing to a different class takes 5 seconds. Of course the game is full of retarded snipers who don't go near flags already but that's par for the course. *** no *** - Will Gill. The combat is smooth, slick and polished although there are the odd lag spikes which can get a bit annoying but its no worse than Cod or Destiny. The one thing that is the game's biggest strength and it's weakness is the supers. They can really help you out but they can also ruin your day. Last night I was on a 22 streak when some dick zapped me with his super, I had zero chance of surviving. Oh the rage.

Also, ammo is unlimited and abilities are on timers so theres no worrying about not having stuff.

Other notes:

I left a game early today and was penalised -75% xp for the next few games. I like this, more games need this so quitters suffer. The lack of anything to work towards is rather concerning. There are no achievements, no unlocks, no attachments, bo perks, no progress at all. It's very Unreal Tournament like that. I'd like something to work towards. Customization is aplenty however, with costumes, hats, emotes, voices, and more. These are all awarded with loot crates which are earned with XP. Blizzard has also stated that they will never charge for any DLC for this game which is good but it does raise the question of what DLC we're going to get as the budget will be limited.

So far it's a great pick up and play game. It's not the kind of game you sink three hour long sessions in to, and for that reason I think it's overpriced. This to me is a £20 game, not a £45 game. That said, we don't know what Blizzard has in store, they usually have epic DLC for their other games but these come at a cost. Time will tell.

I do think this is a great game for us all to hop in together and **** **** up and I do hope many of you get it for that very reason but for a solo player this game is simply too expensive.

Guess I'll be the elephant in the room and say they should leave the fps market to the entire majority of other producers that have no imagination or creativity, and concentrate on the games that made them what they were.

If in 2016 this is what gaming is regardless of platform, I'll start my own damn company producing games and show them how its done!

Game arrived while I was at work today. Didn't realise there would be a 9.7GB patch :(

Got it installing now, but gotta go to bed soon. Will get up early for some matches tomorrow before work.

Stick to what they were? Why?

There was a market for this sort of game on consoles in particular, they've nailed it.

Plenty of imagination, plenty of creativity and balance in this game so far. With the astounding levels of polish only Blizzard is known for then why not?

I'm all for the 'best' developers (Valve, Blizzard, Naughty Dog) exploring new things.

If ND stuck to what made them what they were we'd only have Crash Bandicoot, no UC, no LOU...sad days.

Bang on. Blizzard have simply nicked all the best elements from various other games, added their trademark polish and finish and sold it. They've done a cracking job imo.

Sounds like the kind of game that is only fun if you have a regular group to play with, which puts me off sadly.

The title made me think of Half Life! Then I read it's yet another competitive multiplayer game. *sigh*

Biggest problem with these is everyone flocks to them thinking it's the next best thing ever, then a new one comes out, rinse and repeat.

Amount of people I've heard just look at the graphics without playing and write it off is crazy. It's real fun once get to grips with a few characters, I'm loving D.Va at the moment!

It's a blast for sure. I like it when people write off a game due to its graphics, as they are generally the whiny little bitches that games could do without anyway.

Really solid game, but my internet is on the fritz so I've had to stop playing because I'm getting penalised for quitting :/

Really enjoyed the few games I have managed to play though. Usually go Mercy, quite refreshing playing a shooter without shooting anyone, usually win most random games too as I'm keeping people alive and more importantly getting that ultimate resurrection in at key moments.

I am really enjoying this game. Usually with team shooters I get too frustrated, cause I end up dying non stop and hardly getting any kills. But I've been doing ok at this game.

And I'm surprised that I like more than just the attack focused characters. I love playing as Torbjorn, Bastion and even Mercy! I've even had some play of the games. Got a 21 kill steak with my turret earlier today. And one for ressing 3 players at once, which was just in time to win us the game :)

Bought the Collectors edition today for the PS4. Went for that version as; A) My local independent had it in stock for less than Amazon were charging and, B) I had games to trade in and thought I would treat myself.

Got the steelbook Origin version of the game (same I believe as the normal Origin version), Soldier 76 statue (ruddy heavy!), Art book / game manual (this is really nice actually), postcards (would make a cool poster if combined in a large frame) and the sound track.

Just waiting for the ~ 10GB patch to instal before I can start playing.

As people improve I'm finding 90% of games are crazily one-sided because it only takes a couple of clueless people (or idiots camping rather than going for the objective) and you've got no chance.

More than any game I've played, you really need to play with friends/groups because the solo experience is pretty frustrating a lot of the time.

The lack of progression is a bit of a shame too because the loot boxes are doled out very slowly so when a round is no fun there isn't much incentive to bother trying as you watch your team run head long into turrets charging up the opposition ultimates.

I guess the downside of the huge marketing is you end up with a lot of people used to CoD and other MP games where you can be a "lone wolf"/selfish arse without it affecting the rest of your team quite as much.

I agree. When your in a team where everyone runs off and does their own thing, you usually end up getting rolled pretty hard. You really do need to work as a team to win.

I wish we got loot boxes more than once a level, or the gold coins from something other than loot boxes. Like every so many games or wins, you get a small amount of coins or a loot box.
