Overweight

RDA is ridiculous, it all depends on what your body is doing, hell, look at marines, they eat over 5k calories per day during training, if they only ate their RDA, they would be dead on their feet after a week!

Likewise with me, I don't do anything active, thus I cannot eat my entire RDA.

Yes, I dont have the figures to hand (read them in an actual book rather than online!), but by doing an intensive weights workout in the evening, your body will be craving calories well into the next day, compared to just up to bed time with an intensive cardio workout.

In terms of overall calorie loss I think it was dependant on the type of cardio workout you do, as some target fat burning compared to calorie burning.

I have always found weights to be the better method for shifting unwanted fat. Obviously the most important factor for weight loss is DIET! But yes a full body weights workout is an excellent method for fat burning, providing diet is correct, because you body burns more calories then next day repairing muscles. HIIT is also another good fat burner again because of the calories it burns the next day.

Also drinking ice cold water is another calorie burner, I followed a diet of 1500 cals per day (over 3 meals and 3 snacks), 4 - 5 litres of ice cold water per day and 3 full body weights workout and I lost 3 stone in around 12 weeks.

Are you joking or something?

Not true, calorie burning is the most important factor.

Cutting some calories in your diet, but not changing you calorie burning will result in a very, very slow loss of weight, and if you cut lots of calories to speed up the process, you diet becomes unhealthy.

Exercise is the key for decent weight loss, plus you get fitter, something which a dietary change can only slightly influence.

No really, the most important factor of any weight loss regime is DIET!!!

It's simple Calories in - Calories used

Oh right. I was more meaning the first part of his post.

Obviously I disagree that he CANNOT eat his RDA but I personally am not a fan of RDA numbers because there is no such thing as the average Joe.

:p
well i wasnt referring to the 5000 calories part, i can quite believe it as they work bloody hard in training!

Hypothetically:
I take in 3500 calories a day, I use 2000.
I drop my intake to 2000 calories.

Do I lose any weight? No, I just don't put any more on. To lose weight I would need to increase my calorie usage. So almost halving my calorie intake would still not see me lose weight.

As stated in my previous example, it is easier and healthier to increase calories used than it is to reduce calories, though obviously both need to be done. Plus, increasing calories used means that the simple pleasures don't need to be cut out entirely for the whole process to be effective. Slipped and had a few pints? Just work a bit harder on your workout to balance it.

Everyones RDA is differen't, you can work out your own by looking at how much exercise / physical activity you do.

I worked out my calorie intake a month or so back, was something like 3600 calories. That was for bulking, whilst doing gym, kickboxing and 3x2.4km runs a week.

To be fair now though, I eat what I want / when I want.

Over the summer I'll be doing a fairly intensive work out, for 3 or so months. Strict diet for lean bulking, 3-4 times a week at the gym.
