I wonder if the problem the 2900xt is having is because of the new way in which shaders etc work? It only has x amount olf shader streams (not sure on the term) allocated to 'complex' tasks, 'easy' tasks and so on.

Yes the shaders work in blocks of 4 IIRC, so unless a specific app is coded to use the stream units in a specific way, there will be a LOT of processing power going to waste on the 2900 series.
 
Will re-read the custom pc article (issue 047, August) as it describes the differences between them - 2900/8800 -and the way they work, and I think how many blocks are used for 'current' game shading techniques, and how many are allocated for 'future' more complex shader types.

Thinking about trying for another run with my card and see what score I can achieve again.... hmm....

That was a good score set by you and Paracelsus. Theres not a lot between us ;) .
Pushing mine to the limit aswell (stock cooler ).
All 3 top of the Ati results. :D
