How long did you drive around with P plates before deciding to remove them? Or did you just not bother with them?

I've been driving now for just over a month with them and after the wind blew my rear one off this morning, I'm tempted to remove the front one now.

They have been useful on some occasions. If I stalled at some lights I wouldn't get the driver behind honking his horn away, so thats greatly appreciated. I'd put my hand up, look in the rear mirror and they would acknowledge my little error.

Other times though I feel they've alomost got me into trouble. On 3 occasions on roundabouts I've had instances where vehicles have decided it would be a great idea to pull out on me. One was a bus, the other a huge lorry and a Merc that thought it was a good idea to go with me a few feet away! On all ocasions I was in the correct lane and signaled correctly. I can only assume they saw me coming round with the P Plates on and thought "Nevermind, a new, inexperienced driver. I'll just go now".

I've also noticed this morning since the rear one came off how close drivers are getting up my rear in traffic. With the P Plates visable they kept a decent distance!

Don't get me wrong, they look daft on a bright, freshly T-Cut Corsa. But they have been useful on some occasions.

I'm a lot more confident now so will probably take then off.

My mum put them on for the half an hour drive back I realised everyone still treated me like a learner and took them off.

I had them on for about 2 weeks on my Golf MKV 1.9TDI.

A chav pulled along side me and wound down his window and said..."Well done mate, well done."

Cheeky *******!

To me 'P' plates just tell me that the person behind the wheel has no confidence in their own driving ability and that gives me no confidence in their driving ability.

In short they make me want to get as far away as possible as soon as possible.

Deffinently.

I passed my test so i am ready to drive on the road, i don't need P plates to get "special" treatment.

I never had P plates. I did notice that when the L plates came off when I passed, I instantly got more respect on the road. Like you said, people wouldn't pull out in front of me to avoid getting stuck behind (not that I was ever slow) and you get let out of side junctions in traffic. To me P plates say under-confident driver, but I suppose I do give P plate drivers more room.

I never bothered with P plates as I used to think that the L plates were counter-productive. I got more people acting like idiots around me when I had to use L plates than ever, they seemed to be an invitation to cut me up, ride right up behind me and generally act like a **** around me on the road.

As a result, I was glad to be rid of them when I passed and swore not to use P plates.

I had them on for about a month before they fell/blew off. Definately noticed a difference in other drivers behaviour towards me. Some were more forgiving, others seemed destined to push me off the road.

Prat plates, didn't bother with them. Personally think it shows you don't have confidence in your ability and don't think your'e ready for the road.
