OK, well i hope the new one works better! I just finished taking my rig to pieces, adding fans and sorting the cables out. I also reseated the Ultra-120 and i'm my temperatures are definitely a lot better.
I think they could still be better, because i kept knocking the heatsink while it was in my case which must have messed up the contact between the CPU and HSF. Well, anyway, still with a stock E6600, my load temperature has decreased from 52 to 48 degrees Celsius. This is with TAT, however. Using Orthos blend the CPU cores get about 45 degrees Celsius.
After adding a 92mm fan, my NB temperature has dropped from about 48 to 34 degrees Celsius under load. Although, i did add another 1600rpm fan, too, which i assume is also helping things a long a bit.

Oh, when you attached the backplate to the motherboard, did you peel off the while plastic bit to reveal the sticky surface or did you just leave it all on?
