I have a P4 3.00GHz, 800FSB prescott core. Wnted to know what a safe over clock speed is, I have a Evo Heatsink on, seems to do its job. What programme can i use to over clock it, there is no option in my BIOS.

If there's no option for FSB overclocking (and PCI bus locking) then you're up a creek without a paddle i'm afraid.

If you can't overclock in the BIOS there really is very little point in using software, you won't get very far.
If the board has no options for overclocking, theres a reason it doesnt.

What model is your mobo?

I have a P4 3.0 800fsb cpu and it will reach 3.50 max.
I can happily take mine to 3.67.

The only reason I keep it at around 3.52, is to lessen power consumption.

I have a 2.8 northwood that can bench over 3.7ghz with ease....... but i have seen some struggle to get over 3.2ghz, its pot-luck most of the time.

prescotts usually clock better than northwoods anyway

would also like to know stepping of the cpu (some clock better than others), download cpu-z and look in the 'revision' box, this might give you an idea if its worth getting a new board or not.

Ive had a look around my BIOS and found that iwas able to overclock my FSB. Before i did so i had a look on CPU-Z, this what it showed

Im conserned that my FSB is onliy at 200MHZ.

I changed the BIOS settings and overclocked the FSB to 210MHZ. The FSB then showed 210MHz on CPU-Z and the Bus speed increased to 840MHz. Is this safe and how much more can i overclock safely?

10-20% is good going without any voltage adjustments.

Why are you concerned that the FSB is only 200mhz?

Could anyone recomend me a good programme that measures the CPU and MOBO temps. I have a temp gauge on the front of my case. but i forgot to put the sensors in before i installed Heatsink, i'll put them in soon. Just need a programme for the mean time.

Thanks for that, ive got it now, when i ran it, told me that i had a CPU temp of 91C!!. So i checked on the BIOS and it was only 45C, whats going on there? Case temp was at 25C.
