P4 Safe Overclock

Thanks ive got speed fan works great.

Got 1 more problem now!

My CPU is showing 50C and 55C when running games. Is there anything bar turning heatsink fan up (don't wanna do it cos it makes too much noise)?

Cheers guys!

See my sig, asus P4C800 e-deluex all volt mods bar agp and at 4.2ghz 24/7 from a 3.2 chip.

Your bord is the PCI one yeah? Don;t think there is a Vcore droop mod for some reason, i can check for ya np mate

Jumper free config is what ya bios cpu adjsut settings are under and you'll need timing too on your chipset one too mate

Though if the pci one i bleive the 915 chipset doesn;t clock much

Oh and prescots i'vve had to 130c and they been okay, 70 max is a safe one

Cheers Im not gonna mess with anything else, as Im only running it up to 3.20 untill i get a better heatsink. Im playing on COD2 full settings are its temped on 50-60C.

Can you check that for, and some one explain what timings are and what effects will be both good and bad, thanks.

Timings on a P4 478 don't matter at all, slackest helps then tweak them up there after.

Set the timing to the bigegst number you can thats the slackets ie: slowest and allows for you to oc, then you can tweak them by making the number smaller thus making them tigther ie: fasters

What hSF you got? I say get a XP-120 and some AS5, decent fan for cfm's and ya set good to go. I had an xp-120 i lapped her and temps went down laods, aslo clocked lots more

Oh have you though about a newer bios? I've a beta version and i don't even see a bios screen when i run @4.2ghz it's that silly fast heheheheh

HSF? My guess - Heat Sink Fan?

If thats the case its an £18.00 Evo Heatsink, with a 80MM noisey fan on. Needed some cheap cooling when i ran outta money. Because i got an OEM Processor i didnt get a Heatsink with.

How do i find out what version of BIOS ive got, its a new board only a week old!

Ah right, you get mobo new or 2nd hand? If new seams to be the oldest version of the bios. If you got any of the cd's with mobo then there is one there with a bios updater in windows, load it on ya pc whilest i go find you a bios and report back with what it says about your bios

Edit:

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4S800D-X

^ thats you bios site, latest one is the 1005 dated the 2005/09/20update

Not sure if you have this program or not to flash your bios within windows or not...i must say you could kill the bios chip flashing, we all take the risk of it happning mind. You'll also need to asfter flashing bios, shut down, power off the psu and mobo etc etc and reset the cmos, just set the jumper over for a good 30 seconds then boot back up and check it's chnaged it
