p5w dh mb temp? 52 idle??

Yeh same mine is 52-54c you'd expect better from a novel method of cooling and with it being copper. I've got the fan clipped onto it aswell doesn't seem to make much difference.

From the xtremesys forums it appears that the temp being read is the southbridge not the northbridge., I've fitted a 40mm fan to the northbridge and this made almost no difference to temps, I also added a couple of addtional fans at the same time to the lower part of my case. This seems to be bourn out by the jump of 15c when doing graphical stuff as the exahusts from my x1900's drop the nice hot air straight onto the southbridge.

My CPU is sitting below 40 at load.

hi jimbo,
is your mobo temp 40 deg idel?

Well I'm going off what it says in the bios. At the mo it says its 43C MB Temperature, this is after being in the bios for 5 mins. Im not sure if its idle or load whilst in the bios, some say its full and others say its not.

Starts nice and cold in the lower 30s and after a while goes up to the 40s.

woah this is weird...

I've only just recently built my rig so I hadn't got the side on my case just incase I needed to do anything inside. I've just stuck the side on and now its reading 44'c on my mobo as apposed to 54'c =/ it hasn't got a fan on the side of the case before you ask =D

Must be the flow of air then I guess as my room temp isn't hot.

Finnished the above mods as directed in link above to h/sinks stripped the north and south bridge badges off and cleaned and re seated with artic silver mobo now reading 43 degs, which is better but not below 40 deg c.

Once the rigs as stable as I can get it I will crank it up.
e6600 2gig skill 6400 hz.

The temps on my mobo are 37c idle at the moment, the temps do go up to 39c-40c at idle when the weather is warm, i have built my system in a Cooler Master CM Stacker (STC-T01) and i have three 120mm fans, two in the front and one in the back, i have also fitted the Cooler Master Cross Flow Fan (STF-B01-E1), so this is maybe why my temps arn't as high, or maybe i've just been lucky.

overclocking doesn't seem to do much to the mb temp, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I was running at 2.8 for a while and the mb temp only rose by a couple of degrees

OK I just installed Asus probe and it imediatly startted making a siren sound at me and said my motherboard temp was at 54c!!

Any ideas?? I have put AS 5, on the southbridge? the one with Asus wrote on it.

Can everyone install pc probe of the cd and report there temps?

Should the pins on the SB (the one that says ASUS) be able to push up and down? not sure if mine are fully fitted correctly, if you know what i mean?

I cant seem to keep them fully pushed in.

I cant seem to keep them fully pushed in.
This is normal, they fit springs on the pins so the right amount of preasure is applied to the heat sink/chip without causing any damage.

Its just I took it off and couldnt remember if its supposed to be on tighter. On the oter heatsink they are down and on the one I took of it springs up and down when I push the white pins.

This is probably because the thermal paste is thinner on the heat sink that you removed, if the pins move up and down when you push on them then they are fitted correctly.

MB temps see to come from the ICH area. The southbridge ICH only controls the I/O, PCI and hard drives and doesn't get involved. Trust me, you want to raise the FSB/MCH speeds and you'll need more volts on the memory controller. Higher frequency and more voltage = heat.

Ok thanks mate. Maybe I should apply some a silver 5 to the other bridge then?
It may or may not help, a lot of people have said that it doesn't help much if at all.

Also about the white pins, i mentioned that the thermal paste might be thinner on the heat sink that you removed, another reason might be that the part of the heat sink that the pins go through (where the holes are) may also be thinner and this would explain why the pins move down a bit more on the heat sink that you removed, or the comonents under each heat sink may be different in thickness, this would also explain it.

Thanks, chatten mate.

Graylinghunter can you post some pics of your mod please? Im gonna take out the board and re-do the Nb/Sb again.

Im assuming i'll have to re-use the tim on the northbridge radiator thing? as it wont fit if i take it off..

and i'll also remove those gay covers that say digital home/asus too while im at it.
