Paint mismatch

Depends what it cost, and how bad it actually looks once fitted to the car?

Unfortunately if it's only been done based on paint code, rather than proper colour matching, then that is likely outcome (depending on if the car is parked outside etc)

it has been done from the paint code, IRL it is much darker.

the car is a 2017 SEAT so I wouldn't have thought there would be that much difference (the sprayer mentioned fading)

we paid £85, which is the same as what SEAT quoted us, but this place is closer (more convenient)

It's off. Also they didn't polish it flat, which won't help. It looks dull.

I think I'd just rattle can such a small area. You could get it close enough, probably closer than this lol

Paint codes can be odd. They won't always match perfectly.

For bits like this it's usually better to get a replacement in the same colour from a breaker on ebay. You'll never get a good paint match from just the paint code, surprised they didn't put more emphasis on that, whenever I've had parts painted they have used their gizmo to get a better match.

I know it's a bit late now, but perhaps having both painted black would have been better. Usually they charge about the same price once they've mixed up the paint.

UV fading is an odd one - sometimes happens on some cars or parts much quicker than others.
If I google the paint code it looks much closer to the original mirror though

Maybe lighting, photography and even my monitor but neither of those in the pictures looks like the example images of Moonstone Sliver with a touch more blue in both.

It's the same paint code as Audi Akoya Silver I believe, so if anything it should have a slight purple tint rather than the blue you have

Paint codes are irrelevant.

There’s so much more to matching the colour of something - the application has so many different variables that it’s impossible to get right with just a paint code.

That's a pretty poor match, but assuming the sprayer has done it according to the spec. you've provided them, I'm not sure you've got much comeback unfortunately.

If you'd left the car (or at least the other mirror cover) with them and asked them to match it then you could probably reject it, but if you've just given them the paint code then they've done as you asked.

It's an 8 year old run of the mill car, doesn't really matter if its perfect......

It's the OP's car, not yours, so quite frankly your opinion on the matter is irrelevant.

I've taken it back to him today and he is going to "see what he can do"
Initially he tried telling me there is nothing he can do, but fairly quickly changed his mind and said he can try and colour match it.

and to be clear the mirror cap was dropped off by the missus in the car it belonged to, the guy took the paint code off the inside of the door.
he chose that option, he didn't ask for the old cap to be left or explain that paint code alone might not match the original
