Painting inside garage walls

1.5mm T&E, I also put a spot of mastic around the gland, as I find it stops any bugs getting in to a fitting.

Gland if compression type, (lock nut with black rubber washer) should adjust itself for the flat cable.

Glad is a compression type. I'll the T&E out then. Can i ask why to use that?

You can use round cable, but if your going back to a junction box, I found it awkward to get the lid on some of the junction boxes, as a lot of them have knock outs designed for flat cable, but there are junction boxes which don't have knock outs, it depends on the maker.

But, today, some 5amp junction boxes have become deeper, so it might not be so much of a problem

I bought this http://www.screwfix.com/p/prysmian-...ey/51381#product_additional_details_container

As you advised me when i asked about the LED downlights (still need you help on that)

Yes will be running it back to a junction box. Need to fit a 2 way switch 1 ether end of the garage as well.

Feed in needs to run

Lights - 2 lights, 2x 2 way switechs
Sockets - 6/8 double sockets

3rd coat went on last night, still using a brush but went on loads better.

Lights are also up. Had to use some 12 mm ply of the beams as they where just short. It's bright in there now. Can not wait to paint the floor.

Thinking of fitting this on my feed in to the garage

http://www.screwfix.com/p/bg-garage-kit-enclosure-5-module-ip55-40a-rcd-dual-6a-32a-mcb/68849

This way if the sockets or lights go it'll be in the garage

Good idea, at least if it trips it's will be only the garage.

Had it at a previous place where shed electrics, were fed off the house consumer unit, very annoying tripping it out late at night, total darkness, having to fumble your way up to the house to flick the switch.

Have these got to be a set height from the floor? The current feed into the garage is a armored cable into a metal clad single switch and that has the sockets off it as well. The height of this is around my waist and I'm 6'3''

I would prefer it to be higher my self but it's not going to be an easy cheap move by the looks

No.

I have mine about 900mm from the ground, easier to reach.

Don't even think about joining swa, a lot of hassle just to extend it 1200-1500mm & cost.

That sorts that! Thanks

Next question....sockets. Going to fit 3 twin metal clad over my work bench, maybe 4. How do i join the next one to each one

I will use the black as this will stand out on the white walls and look good

Ring main.

If using 20mm conduit, I find it easy to drop a single 2.5mm T&E each end to first sockets, then loop a length of 2.5mm T&E through the conduit joining each box to next socket,& the next, so you have a ring main.

Might be tight getting two 2.5mm cables down a 20mm & having a tight bends isn't a good idea, also there is a lot of space in a 2g box.

Yeah what going to do that but only 1 feed to them as they are at the end of the line. Was going to daisy chain them?

It was more a point of which bits of screw fix do i need to join them as it's not very clear to a newbee

Okay ring main it is, so that needs to loop back round then?

The garage is going to have a total of 7 double sockets.

Was thinking 8 of these http://www.screwfix.com/p/13a-2-gang-single-pole-switch-socket-metal-clad/69127

I can switch and use 20mm that's not a problem, not ordered any of it yet, getting it right with the expert for what i need and want.

http://www.screwfix.com/c/electrica...ctrical-_-PlasticConduit-_-20mmConduitLengths

5 along 1 wall, 2 on the other and 1 next to the consumer unit

So with the 8 sockets across 3 walls whats the best way to lay it out? never understood ring mains.

Just to check I'll be okay to use cable clips across the timber for the cable runs and then in the conduit for running it down the wall?

What size is the SWA coming in to your garage and is it protected by an RCD in the house?

For the cost of getting an electrician in to do this you're mad trying to do it yourself when you haven't a clue what you're doing.

The quotes I've had have been silly.

Your right I don't know exactly how to it. I know bit, i know how the wires should be strip, fitted, terminated, the clean lines and routes. I'm not a sparky, I am in my 20's, this is my 1st house I've bought.

When you were born did you know how to poop and wipe your bum, didn't think so! Whats a purpose of a forum.... to share stuff and help is it not. Nightglow has done that on a massive scale and that's got him a few beer from me! If he was able to it himself I'd pay the man cold hard cash!

Screwfix run last night

Got the following

Also messing about on eBay got a cutter for £4.50. Just something to add to the growing tool kit, right tools for the right job. Hacksaw might of been okay but this means she can help!

I measure the height of the current socket/switch to where the SWA cable comes in. It's around 100 - 110cm, reason being the cable might need to be stripped back to fit the consumer unit.

All sockets are going to be mounted pretty high up, saves bending down as there is nothing worse having to reach down to get at them and then stuff being in the way.

My 27'' LG screen and adjustable wall bracket arrived yesterday. The screen is a LG 27EA33V 27 Inch IPS LCD Monitor, wall bracket is a Highgrade as can be seen here http://www.highgrade.com.tw/style/f...00285&content_set=color_4&rid=54768&id=341794

Not bad for £32 for the pair :) BRAND NEW

Weekend I think will be getting sockets and switches on the wall, conduit drops and saddles fitted, digging the trench for the ethernet hose pipe run, vent being fitted, freezer out and epoxy floor paint.
