Pardew (apparently) gone

Wouldn't he manage Everton before he even thought about managing Newcastle!

Heck even Stoke finished above us this season and there's a vacancy there for him too!

Everton? You know he was with Liverpool for a long time. :D

Benitez would take the job. His preference is staying in England rather than European football. He's said that himself.

Hi preference is to stay in England but as we've seen previously, he won't just take any job. He wants a job where he challenge for trophies which without a big change in approach from the board/owner isn't going to happen at Newcastle.

Third, surely, behind Martinez? He's not technically gone yet, and Wigan are technically a PL club until June ;)

To be fair when I made the original statement in the manager thread I did explicitly state for the 2013/4 season :)

Either way quite shocking that he'll be #2 and has only been there about 2.5 years. Feels like it is more coincidence than anything though

Well...your going to run out clubs there mate. What other 'big clubs' are firing their managers? Think Newcastle would suit Benitez down to the ground.

Or he can choose between PSG and Napoli :/

As I said, he'd prefer to stay in England but if a job at a club that he feels he can compete to win trophies doesn't become available, he'll go abroad.

And I have no idea how you've come to the conclusion of Newcastle suiting Benitez down to the ground. I'd say Newcastle and their current owners/board/transfer model (ie somebody else making the decisions) are exactly what Benitez wouldn't want.

I don't know what were getting into here, it was just a remark about Benitez probably liking the rumours about Pardew. It would be a great job for him to take. No doubt about it.

..like Roman Abramovich you mean. Anyway, you saying Rafa wouldn't get a say in anything if he took over at Newcastle??

Getting into? This is a forum - you made a post that I disagreed with so I said so and have tried to explain why I disagree. Isn't that what we're meant to do.

And answering your post....

Chelsea was a very special case as he was joining a (relatively) ready made side for a very short period. Benitez wasn't going to be at the club long enough to make any major decisions about the squad or direction.

As Benitez has said, if he's going to join a club that's maybe not already capable of challenging, he needs to see the club as a project that he can build into one that can challenge. I'm not sure that Newcastle have the financial capabilities to even build towards challenging. Furthermore, it's well known that Benitez would want control on most if not all football matters at any club he's at. Newcastle fans can correct me if I'm wrong but it seems very much a case that Pardew has little say in recruitment etc and is more of a first team coach than a manager as we usually see in England.

It's possible that Benitez would give up some control but he'd have to be very comfortable with the people he's working with - I'm not sure that would be the case at Newcastle.

I think people have lost a lot of confidence in Pardew, could go some way to explaining some of the transfer decisions. Suppose it's only a matter of time until we see where Benitez will goes. Personally, his stock just went up in my books with the way he handled the Chelsea job. He would be a very good manager for someone.

Pardew is a bit of a buffoon but doesn't he deserve a full season with his new signings to see what he can do?

I'm happy with Pards, a couple less injuries, a couple of ref decisions and we'd have been 3/4/5 places higher, we're a mid table mediocrity capable of squeezing into Europe or dodging relegation on any given year, its a joke to suggest we're anywhere near even top 6 and that would be IF Ashley put his hand in his pocket.

he needs a top 10 finish or he will get the boot next season according to todays telegraph.

He may well do this but for me we are making the same mistake we made last season and delaying things.

Last season we delayed signings which bummed our season and almost got us relegated. Delaying over Pards is, to me, the same mistake and we will waste half a season and play ourselves I to trouble before trying to fix in January with a new manager and wasting another year.

I'd be happy if he proves me wrong but I don't think he will, I think last season highlighted his limitations and whilst we are by no means a top 5-6 side equally we should never be near the bottom 5.

Look what happened to Wolves when they got rid of Mick because of ignorant terrace know
nowts shouting their mouths, lollollol.
