Parent and Child spaces

Highly amusing that extra foot or so becomes such a prized possesion.

I will favour a child space with my daughter because its easier for her to get out the car as the doors are quite heavy and theres less risk of her hitting the car next to us.

If someone chooses to park in these spaces without children then feel free. Next time I see their car I'll park next to it and leave physics to decide if their car takes a crack.

:)

Has anyone here ever received a comment, or had an altercation with someone, for parking in a parent child space with no child in tow?

I've given 3 out.. if that helps, and funnily they've all moved, for me to park my Sprog Wagon and get preferential access to the store.. :)

I was lucky none where carrying their keyboards with them, no doubt I might have got a serious injury..

Have you always dreamed of being a parking attendant?

I would also point out that if you value your car, the very last place you should park is a child space.

How many dumped trolleys are there in the M&B area compared to the rest of the car park?

How easy is it to navigate a trolley full of shopping and 3 kids to watch?

How likely is it for a bored kid to get a bit too close to another car with nice shiney buttons on their coats - or just lean against the next car in that bored stroppy way some kids do?

IMO, much higher risk of damage to occur in M&b spaces. When I have cars that I actually care about I park the far end of the car park irrespective of who is with me.

Got a LOL from me. :D

I had a loudmouth like you shout at me once for parking in a P&C bay.

Do you know why i moved? Because i was worried that my car would not be in the same shape when i got back if i didnt, as anybody who confronts someone in that way is quite clearly an overgrown yob.

This is the Problem..

I'd like to see some 'ruling' made about P&C usage..

Clearly IMO, I'd say these should be for Parent and babies, more specifically for children in Group 0/1 child seats.. these require parent intervention to get the child in/out the car and improved access is required. As soon as they go to Group 2+ seats that use normal seat belts, they should be reasonably expected to be able to operate them, and it's up to you to educate them on how to get in/out responsibly..

We stopped using the spaces when our youngest went into a Group 2 Seat, I do tend to park in a space that access is a little better then normal, but I don't clog up the P&C space because I feel it's courteous to leave them for people that really do need them..

To be honest I park in these spaces like 1 out of every 10 times I visit a supermarket and normally me and my daughter just make do with a normal space (she’s still in a pushchair). I would park in them more but I get so fed up with all the lazy people sitting with their hazards on waiting for a space and blocking the car park when there arent any child parent spaces free. I just drive to the space 4 spaces down that isn’t marked as a child parent bay and walk the extra 30 foot :D.

I think it should be children in push chairs if I'm honest and my reason behind this is because in the small park cars in my area you don’t have enough room to get the door open and the push chair alongside the car instead you have to put your child in the push chair normally in the lane of the park car. Of course you put the push chair as close as you can to the car but there is still the risk of some idiot hitting the push chair. As rare as this would be thats my reasoning behind it.

If your child is able to walk without falling over like 3 years + I think you should be parking in normal spaces and teaching your children respect and carefulness when opening doors.

Agreed.

I like the assumption and generalisation..

For your information, I went up to them politely, and explained calmly that they where clearly parking in a space not designated for them.. Polite but firm.. surprising how reasonable some people are when they've left their keyboards at home..

Odd you should speak of ******, as if they don't care about you or your property and would abuse it at the drop of a hat, yet you seem happy to not care about P&C spaces and the people that they are designated for and would abuse them at the drop of a hat.. Very telling indeed..

Following on from Booner's thread about parking I thought I'd put this out there to the OCUK massive...are there technicalities which state that you have to be under a specific age to qualify as a child to let your parent park in the bay?

Similarly to Booner, my mother and I were out shopping a few weeks ago and it was widdling down with rain - We were only popping in to Saino's for a few minutes so I forced her to park in the parent and child space as technically she's my parent and I'm her child...

Are we illegalz?

I am not trusting anything with parking now, so easy to get fined for such a simple mistake. Not worth the agro in my opinion, especially if you take up a space that somebody else needs...might rub them up the wrong way!

Remember guys, if you have kids you are a more important person than everyone else :)

Well obviously, we are providing the next generation of lazy kids and state scroungers. ;)

The ruling would be unenforceable - probably why there is no ruling.

IMO, at 8 year old my daughter is a child and if there are P&C spaces available I'll use them. If someone with no children parks there, I personally feel they are taking the pee.

I will make the decision when I feel its inappropriate to use those spaces.

It doesnt tell you a lot other than the fact that i do not see the issue with a tattoed parent usually in an estima or other awful child-wagon wearing parent having to park elsewhere if i got there first.

If you did it politely and people moved for you then at least you dealt with it properly. I wrongly assumed that you probably dealt with it in the way i experienced. :)

I struggle to see why you seem to come to this conclusion? Has anyone hinted at this in the slightest, or have people just said the bleeding obvious which is these spaces allow better access to Children, who when in Group 0/1 baby seats require significantly more access to..

Sounds like some irrational statement of resentment to me, you jealous or something?

Haha

I dont think i'm more important ... well maybe a little :D

But really I have had some crazy times where you park your car in a normal space with 2 normal people who look like they have parked reasonable well to then come back to two land rover style cars parked within inches of my car both sides. This being rare but trying to get your child into a car seat with out hitting there head on the door frame and get the belt on is a mission :p. So these spaces are handy to avoid this super rare happening thats happened about 3 times to me lol.

As a few people have said before these spaces should only really be used for babies and very young children. And also should be treated as a luxury not a god given right lol.
