Parking charge rant

Same as NIPs it's assumed you received it unless you have magic evidence to the contrary.

Well it's a private company so it's their word against yours. Civil matter, unlike a NIP.

You could deny it ever existed and it would be up to them to proove it in court. If they sent it tracked they can do that, but otherwise nope.

Civil works on balance of probabilities iirc so is the judge going to believe you didn't receive the initial paperwork or any follow ups if they can show they were sent to the correct address or will they assume you're trying to pull a fast one like 99% of the people that use that excuse.

Yeah there is a reason why they spam you from multiple angles and periodically re-request your address. On balance you'll have likely received 1 of the 12 letters up until that point.

You are better off being a grown up and determining, using the POPLA guidelines, whether an actual breach occurred. If it didn't and you decided to park on someone else's land and decide you didn't want to abide by the rules, then you already know you 'owe' you bill.

We need to be more like France, they don't give a **** en mass with this sort of thing and it goes nowhere :D

The French also don’t take the **** with their parking charges. 10 minutes free in the Drop off/Pick up section of Toulouse airport and only €3 for a full hour in the short stay.

Last time I dropped someone and LHR, it cost me £5 and I was only stationary for a minute…

I went to the supermarket during peak COVID and got stung for parking for longer than their maximum permitted time of 1hr.

I appealed saying that 1hr isn’t enough time to do a full shop at the best of times, never mind during 2020 pandemic panic-buying madness and they wouldn’t budge.

I wouldn’t mind if I’d gone over by a lot but it was 6 minutes and that was pretty much a straight forward visit without any queuing shenanigans. I’d have appealed it but I was at a point in life where I didn’t need undue stress etc.

That's outrageous. Surely the receipt would've shown the time you had paid, got back to the car, etc.

I can see why you didn't bother appealing at the time, but that's some bs.

New changes are long overdue. They target the more deliberate people flouting rules, rather than catching out the more innocent ones as the few stories in this thread have outlined.

I can see them shutting down and reopening as another firm to regain it's DVSA access though once they've been denied.

Put money on either UKPC or ParkingEye being the first to lose access.

Although these are just plans at this stage. It'll only take a few brown envelopes to make them go away....

About time tbh. This "industry" is so dodgy. Maybe they will now just make whole carparks of badly marked disabled bays now :D

Hope you’re doing better now :)

That’s unfortunately the situation they prey on, though

I got done recently in my town - lost track of time, was in a shop, no signal, paid for my stuff, went outside and paid 11 minutes late for extra time than I needed

Still got done, but paid it because I didn’t need the hassle
