Parking Ticket Query

My mate passed his test yesterday and drove to school today. Parked in a multistorey.

He went shopping a didn't bother with a ticket as he thought he'd risk it. Got back to the car and found a parking ticket on the screen so he's blagged a valid ticket from somebody else in the carpark as they were leaving.

Do you think he'll get away with it?

Cheers

:D

if not just don't pay. What are they gonna do about it?

Eventually get a court order to take belongings of that value plus court fees and bailiff fees.

Someone I know gets them all the time form Macclesfield Borough, I said to show them the valid ticket and the responded with "It has to be on display at the time to be valid". I'd personally fight it until I won or it got to be a dead end with increasing fees - but I always absolutely make sure its stuck and if it does fall it will still be visible. :D

If it's the first time they will cancel the ticket. Be warned though if it happens repeatedly they don't.
yeah send the letter and it should be exponged.

Depending on where you are different things. Worst case: Registered at county court - passed to bailiffs (extra fees added) - Levy against goods (often the vehicle that got the ticket) - if not paid after multiple visits and fees clamp the vehicle - if still not paid car taken and auctioned - fine paid and any money left over given back to you. It does happen.

are you speaking from experience or are you just stating "the law"?

I've had a fair few tickets over the years from council pay and display space and private car parks, usually for going 5-10 minutes over (one time I got stuck in the lift on the way out of work lol). Always got the same generic threatening letters with scare tactics saying "zomg we're gonna take you to court and sell your house if you don't pay us £20!!". This usually works for most people (I'm guessing from your reply that it would work on you).

After 3 letters they give up. They don't take you to court, it's not worth their while.

These are "excess change notices" (also known as toilet paper). Tickets from the police usually "fixed penalty notices" are completely different and they will take you to court for their money! Although again this can be disputed if the yellow lines were broken or badly maintained ;)

Yeah I did and they let me off !
I forgot to buy a ticket so asked a driver leaving if I could have his and sent that off ,saying it fell down.

And this is why people who legitimately have an issue where the ticket did fall off the windscreen have so much hassle.
Due to people attempting to screw the system because they shouldn't have to pay for parking like the rest of us they will question you all the way and make your fight to get let off the fine.

If indeed it did fall off the windscreen I can only wish them luck and hope that an understanding person reads the claim.
However with so many people just sending in a random ticket they picked up off the floor because they couldn't be bothered to buy a ticket then don't expect it to be easy.

As Muban and [DW]Muffin said if you don't pay, the bill will just get bigger and bigger, so don't ignore it!

I'm sorry, that's complete rubbish. They LOVE people who think like this. These are the mugs who pay everyting because they're afraid to stand up for themselves and dispute it.

Three people against your opinion, it isn't rubbish there are plenty of people out there who ignore parking tickets and get a court order for the outstanding money. There is no need to call people mugs for abiding by the law.

ohhh 3 people on some computer forum said it so it MUST be right

I bet you can't name one person you know who has gone to court for a non fixed penalty fine.
