Part of a SpaceX rocket washes up on Scilly

No other choice, all rockets do the same, and it's such small qauntities. At least the rest of the world isn't china, where you get bits falling through your roof.

But it's now on a beach.

So presumably they should pay for removal etc

It does seem a shame than in something as modern and awesome as space travel you still get the 'who cares, the ocean's huge' attitude to dumping stuff. I mean, it obviously isn't a huge amount of material in the grand scheme of things, it's just a disappointing that the same old attitude prevails.

Same goes for actual debris in space, I mean, wtf? Did no one think to say, 'Hey guys, you know how we ****ed up the planet with our lack of foresight, do you reckon we should do something about old and damaged satellites causing a huge problem in orbit?'

Wouldn't surprise me if we're in a flotsam and jetsam scenario.

Just had to Google that, so you think finders keeper.

Under maritime law the distinction is important. Flotsam may be claimed by the original owner, whereas jetsam may be claimed as property of whoever discovers it. If the jetsam is valuable, the discoverer may collect proceeds received though the sale of the salvaged objects.

Where jetsam is deliberately thrown overboard, and flotsam is accidently washed overboard.

If SpaceX want it back, the island will be happy to give it back. It's a fascinating and interesting find.

And?
Who says they wont.

Your trying to troll to hard

How is it trolling to query dumping?

It's a large piece of intentionally dumped scrap.

And like I say the paints etc are not nice things on this stuff

We launch some 200+ sata lites a year it's going to add up

Off course your trolling, you sprouting nonsense on purpose,

Howe do you know what the paint is, seeing as you have no idea about it at all.

Not really trolling is it? I agree with him, the paint will indeed more than likely be pretty nasty stuff. Not sure on the environmental impact, seems to be compost for mussels.

Hex chromate epoxy paint.

Cause it's the same stuff we use.
.fasteners will all be cadmium plated with chromate treatment on top of that too.

Rofl.
So not toxic unless inhaled.
It's not filling the ocean with it.
And also just because you use it, doesn't explain how you know they use it, when seemingly you know nothing about them..

And use an airbag, rofl.

Not exactly what you want to be filling the oceans with though is it.

trapped in the resin paint its fine.

the dyeing industry dumped thousands of tons of free hexa valent chromium into the ocean before it was banned and we didn't die.

well not yet........................

banned being disposed of in that way, because it is toxic to aquatic life.

we're launching hundreds a year now.

And also just because you use it, doesn't explain how you know they use it, when seemingly you know nothing about them..

cause its clearly obvious in all the pictures of them being constructed....

And use an airbag, rofl.

why rofl? that's who we lift entire ships for slavage floating an old aluminium tube wouldn't be a massive difficulty.

thing that's funny is if this was someone taking out old ships, or planes, or any other scrap you'd be against it.

whack space on it and you're all in favour of fly tipping.

make them have to recover their waste and it will improve the push for reusable rockets.
