Just had a part worn Michelin Energy Saver tyre fitted at a back street garage for £20. Tread depth is practically brand new. Got home and noticed this chunk out of it at the edge, they or someone must have known about it as it has a white pencil mark showing where it is.

Have I just been conned out of 20 notes? :(

£20 for a tyre.

the tyres on my little brothers BMX cost more than that.

its hardly surprising that its in that condition.

take it back but i'm fairly certain they will say you did it.

buy new tyres next time.

Whether you were conned or not you should now be prepared for the torrent of part worn using abuse you're about to receive ;)

and rightly so. part worn tyres are a false economy and in most cases unchecked and dangerous. as this thread has unequivocally proven

the picture is of a small steel rim. for which a new midrange tyre is not expensive.

Looks more than just a chunk, is it split?

Don't know if it is split or cut or what it has had stuck in it or a manufacturer fault. It has a little dribble/strand of rubber stuck to top of of the cut. Like what you get when you dribble syrup from a spoon.

I'd say you've just been conned.

:(

I'd say you were daft for contemplating part-worns to begin with.

Just one tyre that needed replacing as it was bald on the edge. Cheapest new fitted was £46.

So, add in the cost of fuel (two round trips now), and the potential for paying out for a 2nd... buying new would have been a) cheaper, b) easier, and c) safer.

Why people bother with part-worns I'll never know.

this - never understood it at all. Whilst costs are lower than a new tyre, you have no idea where the tyres has come from, how old it is, previously repaired etc. Just not worth the hassle.

People spend £100 on a night out and don't think twice about it but baulk at £60/£70 for a new tyre to keep them safe on the road!

Suggests the tyre has a cut in it and an attempted repair. Pretty much borderline between tread and sidewall too, so safety of it is a complete gamble.

Not entirely sure why part worns and remoulds haven't been outlawed. Why should somebody else being a tightwad impact (literally) on other people?

People don't think of the potential consequences, either because they don't want to, aren't informed enough, or can't be bothered.

I hate people's attitudes towards running a car, it's not an object which should be run on a shoestring IMHO.
