Pascal Titan-X Launch

What I think they might do, when AMD VEGA comes out, if it is faster than the 1080, instead of releasing a 1080Ti, they mght just lower the MSRP on the titan, I say this because the Titan X is already a cut down card from 3840 CUDA cores, whereas the maxwell Titan X was a full card and the 980ti was a cut down Titan X. Or they might release one with less CUDA cores than the Titan X.

The reason I am not rating AMD very well is because the 1080 is already 30% faster than the Fury X in a lot of games etc. The fury X already has HBM memory bandwidth and 4096 cores... Also the RX480 does not seem to have much IPC improvement over the 390x, it just has more MHZ.

I fully expect overclocking to really unleash what a beast this card will be, but I think it is clocked low at stock to keep the TDP down.

Well it has the same 1080 FE cooler but with 70w more to dissipate, I think it may really struggle to hold a clock which is why they might be really conservative with it on air, hopefully under water it will show it's full potential.

Its the same shroud for sure, (except in black before some bright spark mentions that) we can assume that it is the same cooler underneath, but it might be different. For overclocking you might need to turn the fans up a bit more, but if the performance is there, people wont mind the extra noise, or as you say they will water cool them.

This card reminds me of the original Titan in the way it's already cut down. Really looking forward to the cut down version of this card - something resembling the 780 would be great in terms of what's chopped off. Would be able to maintain much higher clocks with water not being a warranty issue on brands like EVGA. Might even see a 12GB version for a premium as they sold 6GB 780s for a short while.

Would be pretty worried with the NVIDIA direct warranty if the reference cooler is stripped off. Such a shame as this card deserves to be under water.

If there is a cut down version, if this is only around 20% or so faster than a 1080 then castrating it further would be utterly pointless. Sounds like its already had its nads cut off due to clock speeds as it is.

if it clocks like the 1080 under water then I will find it hard to resist, however if it turns out just to be a failed chip with the clocks knocked back then I think I'll be waiting.

I don't think a full GP102 is going to be a failed chip.

The 780 for example, had over 300 Cuda cores chopped off from the already cut down chip and it wasn't that much slower than the original Titan. This is partly because of the higher clock speed. Remember, if they release a cut down version of the Titan XP it will be able to maintain far higher boost clocks if aftermarket brands get their hands on it. High factory OCs and far superior cooling to maintain the boost clocks will pull it further towards the stock Titan XP.

Warranty voided though? Big balls on a £1200 card

I hybrid cooled 2x Titan X's worth £1600 and they were MSI branded, so no guarantee they would honour the warranty.

Just have to be very careful :)

That's what I meant, no aib cards this time. If you could buy an evga Titan x I might have considered it.

Interested to see how good the Titan X is, definately not getting one, but still interested. Is NDA 2pm tomorrow?
