Passat TDI110.

Yeah 110 TDI, is pre PD.

Yup can hear the turbo fine. No smoke of any colour. Doesn't seem to hesitate.

I thought 40 - 60 in 4th would be a fair test, seeing as it's falling into it's albeit narrow powerband at that point.

Will unplug the MAF to see if it improves anything. I'm guessing vagcom would pick this up, if only I could find someone locally to Cirencester or Kenilworth ;)

Oh and VW parts are cheap in comparison to Nissan! I've saved £30 already this week in fuel, and experienced a whole CD's worth of extra music.

Sounds like somethings broken mate. 40-60 shouldn't take 10 seconds even with that engine.

In 4th dont forget, it will do it much quicker in 3rd. In 4th the turbo wont have spun up either, so he's out of boost and out of the power band.

It's a Passat TDI with 110bhp not a Veyron. My car has more than twice the power and is only 3.2 seconds quicker 40-60 in 4th. Sure, it'll do the same test in a smidge under 3 seconds in 2nd, but then, this Passat will do it quicker in 3rd so not sure what the issue is?

i wouldnt bet money on 3rd being quicker. youd have to ring it out ot the red in 3rd to get to 60 and itll be a slow crawl to the top, in 4th it should have it big lump of torque to rely on

Given that even a current shape TDI 140 Passat takes almost 30 seconds to get to 100mph I would imagine this one is even worse - 35-40 seconds?

It is not a fast car. It is a very slow car. Therefore 40-60 in 10 seconds sounds very reasonable

30 seconds is bad, im pretty sure the figures for the pd130 a4 i had was early 20 seconds. i dont think there will be many sites listing "performance" stats for cars like that though

I agree, all I could find is a detailed road test of a current shape Passat.

Early 20's from a TDI 130 A4 sounds like a big ask.

That does sound way too slow - I've driven a 130 TDI passat and my old Toledo had the same 110 engine (admitedly ones more powerful and the other's a bit lighter) but neither were annoyingly slow.

10s to get from 40 to 60 sounds like a long time on a car that should get from 0 to 60 in 12s ish

In 4th!! If you are going for it you'll be going up through the gears.

4th sounds about right though? I forget how my Toledo was geared but I dont think I'd have been in 3rd much past 45~50 even when pressing on

But if you drop it into 4th at 40mph it's not going to be ready to go like a rat up a drain pipe in the middle of its power band is it? You've got to get the turbo to spin up, etc etc.

Whereas if you drop into 4th as you run out of go in 3rd you are right in the power band.

Surely though it will do 60 in 3rd gear and although power will be tailing off it'll be far more potent from 40-55ish?

40-60 in 4th in my 90BHP Octavia takes about 6 seconds by stop watch.

Your Passat should be quicker.

Not sure it applies, but I have a Alhambra with the 110bhp vag lump and i must say, whilst it is slow, its doesnt feel it. It doesnt seem like its taking 10 secs from 40 to 60. It did when the MAF and actuator was buggered.

Ive got a VAG com ebay lead you could borrow bud, drop me a mail in my trust and i'll post it out to you (unless you are coming past Dudley or Worcester?)

Because when you are doing 40-60 you are not doing it using only 4th gear!

You'll be in 3rd, and you MIGHT change into 4th near the end, whatever you do it'll be loads quicker than just doing 40-60 in 4th.

You aren't allowed to change gear if you drive a diesel, it's against the rules.
