PASSED TEST 1ST TIME

Just remember to be a really good boy for 2 years, or 6 points later you'll be sitting an extended test to regain your licence.

27 lessons wtf, I passed first time on 15 lessons

Meh, everybody is different. Literally after my first lesson my instructor told me to book my test, but though a series of ****-ups (including losing my license the week before my test) I ended up passing after my 10th 2 hour lesson with Zero Minors (Because I'm just that awesome :p).

Isn't the "average" is supposed to be 40 hours?

About that. Weren't the government on about making 100 hours tuition mandatory? Suppose that may not happen now....

Congrats, I also passed the first time, word of advise though:

Take it easy and learn to drive calmly for the first couple of weeks (months!), take extra time when parking etc to make sure you don't hit anything, ignore other drivers having to wait 15 seconds longer just keep calm and don't rush into any maneuvers. I had some VERY close calls with walls, other cars, and people when parking/reversing out of places, only because I didn't use the throttle at all when maneuvering ( so just using the clutch when maneuvering) I managed to keep my first 8 months without any damage. Pay extra attention in area's with parked cars on the side, I've had kids jump out between cars in front of me twice! And generally, on intersections pay attention, don't forget the blind corners, if unsure about the right of way don't just take it, either just wait till you do know if you have it or till someone waves or flashes you to go ahead and gives you the right of way. I know it's extremely tempting to boot it once in a while especially at start but try to not do it ( at least until later). Within a month, perhaps 2, from your lessons your driving style will be completely different than what you have been taught probably. Finally, assume everyone is a blind retard and that they HAVEN'T seen you, after a while I started to assume people aren't blind, resulting in me nearly crashing in to a van with 45mph ( had to evade on the grass) due to them not giving me the right of way/being blind ****'s... Assume that people will regularly ignore/miss you and throw their car in front of yours.

I put the 27hours in because I was so used to driving an automatic I kept holding break on a manual and expecting the car to go forward even with the clutch down. :o

However, I think it was all worth it, I just had a trouble driving a manual coming from an automatic.

Good news well done.

My lad passed about 14 months ago after me teaching him some reverse parking etc and then he had about 10 lessons properly and he passed first time with no minors

happy was an understatement...

Passed first time after 12 lessons and 5 minors, 2 for speeding, 2 for inappropriate speed in traffic and one for mirrors, very lucky :D

Why is everyone at shock at 27 lessons being so much? It's below the average and most people in my sixth form did over 30 to pass especially if you include those who failed first time. I'm 19 if that helps don't know if it's a more recent thing...

27 lessons 1 hour long = 6months which must be average..

I passed in 8 lessons, 5 minors, hesitation and mirrors iirc. But I know several of my friends who had 70+ lessons so 27 isn't that much really.

Congrats!

I'm taking my test quite late (24 now) and a bit nervous about getting to grips with the whole "technique" as I've never given it any thought let alone driven a car.

I'm hoping to take a 2-3 week intensive course with my cousin (qualified driving instructor) so I can just get it out the way, really can't be bothered with 8 months of lessons :|

Concur, most people my age (20) passed between 20 and 30 lessons, sometimes more.

Personally for me it was 24, which isn't a lot. my instructor was always fully booked so only got 1 lesson a week, 2 if i was lucky.

*edit* rather, when I was 17 (20 now) everyone passed between 20 and 30 :P

Congrats! :) Take it easy and be observant and never assume. You probably know all this though. It's a great feeling isn't it? :)
