Went to the Passport and identity office yesterday for my passport interview. its a pity the laws now changed for it as now they actually ask you questions that the normal everyday 16 year old wouldnt know. which was great for me!

things like my family's date of birth's, the person who cosigned the form's age and where he/she works. was a big hastle and hoepfully ive passed the interview, however i did slip up on my mums date of birth and my siblings date of birth.

Anyone else had an experience with the new interview process with a passport?

im slightly worried that the 2 questions i got wrong may jepordise my interview so i wont get my passport.

I must have been out of hte loop for some time... Are you saying that in order to get a passport you need to be interviewed?! Is this the rule now?!

yes its now law, well i beleive its only for your first passport but im not entirely sure,

the law was brought in sometime in 2007 unfortunately :(

In a year or so's time you'll need to have an ID card in order to get a passport. This will involve an interview, your retina scanned, fingerprints taken, mugshot taken, and DNA swabbed from the mouth.

Lucky I never go anywhere.

I think I read in a paper before that since these interviews have been introduced there has been a 100% pass rate and there were calls as to what the point of these interviews were for if it was a 100% pass rate as it was supposed to stop people getting them etc...

A useless statistic probably taken form the daily mail? Yes the 100% pass rate is slightly worrying unless it has been accompanied by a drop in the number of applications. If the fraudsters are not applying for passports for fear of failing the interview then obviously the system is working.

Not saying this is tru I have no idea as to the actual figures and I like you suspect it has had very little effect on fake passports in circulation but always be weary about quoting one sided statistics.

Its easier to just get a fake one . . .

Like you say a1ex2001, whats the point of applying if you a fraudster if you know you are not going to pass / get one . . .

Best to get it renewed just before this is introduced then.

its quite a formal interview aswell, the whole interview is recorded on tape and the person who is interviewing you asks you questions that a fraudster would notmally get caught up on. and when its all over they ask you if you wish to change the address it'll be delivered to (which could be a question asked just to see your responce, as a fraudster may want to change the address)

Also they're was a man sat in the waiting area obviously listening in on me and my mum talking. he then waits till the interview is finished and as you take the lift down, he takes the stairs down and waits outside out of view to catch your conversation on the way out. sneaky government!

Where are these interviews held? Near to your home or at the Ministry of Love?

That doesn't surprise me. I know a lot of people who get Incapacity Benefit or Disabled Living Allowance through a support forum I use. Most of them have to have interviews every year to keep getting their benefits, and so there are often posts asking about the interview. Apparantly it's not uncommon for someone to be watching as people approach the building, how they act once inside and then again on the way out.
