Passport Interview

ah well i can see why they do it though.

i suppose ive never thought of the goverment as being a watcher, and actually paying people to sit and watch people's behaviour on the way in/out of the building but i suppose it does have massive benefits like stopping fraud etc

I'm off to Mexico in 11 weeks. Am sending my passport form tomorrow - Going to post office to get the check and send service. I have a passport (child passport) that expired in April this year. I got it when I was 16 and I'm not 21. I am posting the expired passport with the new application. Will I need to attend a interview? I'm 100% british born and bred lol.

Arent the interviews just for people getting there first passport, not for renewals. Thats what i was lead to believe anyway.

In a year or so's time you'll need to have an ID card in order to get a passport. This will involve an interview, your retina scanned, fingerprints taken, mugshot taken, and DNA swabbed from the mouth.

Lucky I never go anywhere.

UK this is Davina Mccall you are live on Big Brother, please do not swear

So in an effort to stop people walking in and getting a passport with their picture they want you to prove you're the person in the picture, with such mind boggling questions as when your family was born, where they work and what information YOU WROTE ON YOUR OWN APPLICATION FORM. Jesus, whats this country coming to, having to know really really basic information, life just gets harder and harder for average Joe doesn't it.

Seriously, them trying to actually confirm who you say you are, is that such a big deal especially considering the huge portion of this country and even larger amount of people on this forum who seem to be anti immigration. I mean its still not hard to pretend to be someone else, an accent doesn't mean you can't get a passport, people can and have gone in and gotten passports under false names so they can come back into the country when they wouldn't be allowed to under their own normal ID.

Seriously, if they'd asked for ridiculously difficult information you might have a point, but your brothers and sisters, and parents birthdays, i mean, seriously. I'm sorry but claiming that your average 16 year old shouldn't/wouldn't know that basic information is beyond pathetic.

that seemed abit harsh. in the whole thread your the only one who has actually been sarcastic and rude.

ive never been good with date of births, never will be, i know a lot of people on here wont be good. pointing it out, being sarcastic and then calling it pathetic is just abit too rude if you ask me.

Yeah, I'm not good with dates either and probably couldnt tell you the year that my mum/dad/sister was born. I would actually need to calculate it, which in an interview, would look very dodgy. However, if I have filled out a form and know I am being interviewed, I would memorise the information on it.

I think drunkenmaster needs to have a drink, to calm his nerves a little. :D

Just LOL, I thought they canned the ID card stuff anyway (something to do with 3 billion for the hardware to store it all and it was that or new nuc's...)

Seriously though id rather they did this and wasted quite a few peoples time then have a load of fake UK passports floating about and getting even funnyer looks at airports every time i go to n from uni (or on holiday), yeah i have the worst passport photo from when i was 15 with longish hair covering half my face so they all look and stair or a little while (and i have to fly every few months)

The people who are into fake passports will get them regardless. EG. if you are a drug dealer and or terrorist and you need a fake identity/passport, you will get one quite easily providing you know the right people. Do you think the people involved in the World Trade Center attacks were using their own, correct identities?

Its actually the people who are honest, who have to pay for this privilege.

I'm confused, as are others - Even if you are born in the UK you still have to endure this?

I barely remember my birthday :-/

Yeah, and you still need a hefty amount of paperwork to prove you're a citizen, if you were born after 1983.

Wow, that's laughable - so lets take an example:

Dave is born in 1983 and has a full track record of his existence through school, college, university and work. If Dave messes up on his answers does he get deported ....to the sea?

ha ha no.

the interview is only for your first passport either ever or in a while (under the new system)

therefore if you've had a newish passport already then they'res no need for you to go through the interview procedure.

and no if you've failed to get a passport (whic has already been stated is highly unlickely) i beleive you just have to sit through the interview again.

no deportation :D

When you say in a while. Mine is due in like 7 or 14 years, would I have to go through it at that point?

In 7 or 14 yrs time, the rules will probably even more stricter by then. Who knows what you will have to do in 2022.

True.

Probably measure anal cavity size, can see it now "This persons hole has gone bigger! Arrest him!", citizen response "I've aged you ****".

Crazy stuff.
