Does anyone know how long it takes for a passport to come through if you are ordering it from scratch?

Have lost mine as I am having a major house extension and there is no way of finding it quick.

Thanks! :D

I've just done this recently as my passport had expired, there was no great rush but using the Check & Send Service from the Post Office it took 3 working days which is really quite fantastic service from IPS. The Service costs an extra £8 but it's cheaper than the guaranteed one week option and going on my experience is at least as quick plus you've got a little bit of reassurance you haven't missed anything obvious.

IIRC the process can be a lot quicker for an expired passport than a lost one, as you can provide them the out of date one too. That was for the 3 day super quick service when i did it.

Currently awaiting my Irish passport. Knowing how useless the postal service is in the ROI I'm expecting it to be at least two weeks... But it'll be worth it to have two passports for easy Middle East travel :)

If your current one is lost it's a minimum of a week due to the extra checks they do.

Applied for my first passport a few months ago. I used the check and send service the Post Office provide, and also had to have a video link interview with the IPS.

It was just over two weeks from sending the application to receiving the passport though, which I though was pretty good.

They don't send passports by post I don't think.

Last time I had some old guy in a 10 year old vauxhall deliver them, must have been some retired guy who was in a responsible position.

Used the fast track thing about a year ago, all in all it took something like a week to 10 days for me to get my passport (this included an interview).

My passport was signed for when it arrived, same for my sisters and everyone else I know.

They even asked for ID from my Dad who signed for it :)
