Right i have never had a passport before, i want one for going away on the 5th of march but checking the passport website it says i need to attend an interview

anybody else recently got their first passport and what were your experiences getting it

My sister got her first passport recently and the interview only lasted about 10 minutes.

They ask you things you should know e.g. place of birth, parents DOB.

And also why you require a passport, (holiday, work) that sort of thing.

Literally received my first passport a few weeks ago.

The interview is really easy and is nothing to worry about, they will ask you about the information that you have provided them with.

Parents, when they were born / married.
Age / job / how you know the counter signature.
whats your bank?
any brothers and sisters?

They won't ask you why you want a passport.
The security guard might bring it up in convosation, oh and both security guys were ex forces when I went.

The hole interview was like being in a film.

hmm its a pain in the bum because the passport office is in glasgow, just now im working 6 days a week and i dont really want to have to spend 5 hours travelling on my day off just to get a passport really :(

it appears my trip is off

It's really quite amazing how difficult it is to get out of the country yet how easy it is to get into the country...

Anyone living in the eu economic area and illegal immigrants accross the channel.

Illegal immigrants are just that - illegal, so it's border protection that's more important.

And have you ever applied for a passport from a foreign country in the EU, to claim that it's easier than here?

I have passports from here and abroad, and can say that it was just as difficult to get either.

What the?! When did this start happening for renewals?

Since when did we have to get interviews to get a passport, I never had to get any interview when I got my passport at 18 (in '05)

Why does the UK have to add more layers of stuff to get something done

"Security" apparently...or, more like a load of pointless crap for law-abiding people.

The Government admitted in a recent parliamentary answer that there are now 76.7 million numbers on the database, well in excess of Britain's adult population of 49 million.

Some of the surplus numbers are legitimate. The DWP estimates that 16.5 million are registered in the names of dead people whose surviving spouses can lawfully claim a pension against their late spouse's NI contributions. Another 1.5 million are thought to belong to pensioners living abroad who can claim UK benefits.

However, a spokesman for the DWP said the remaining nine million had yet to be categorised.

9 million unaccounted for? Thats quite some fraud there. Still no answer to date, from what I can find...

I'm forced to have a passport just prove my right to work, but that also seems pointless since illegals can just sweep the jobs from under me while using forged documents\illegitimate NI numbers...
