Pat Condell on Fitna

Well according to Wikipedia, Ibadism follows this 'religious obligation':

barā'ah: dissociation and hostility towards unbelievers and sinners, and those destined for Hell.

Ok, that's not murdering and savaging people however it is on the same level as say the Westborough Baptist Church. Maybe someone can give me more clarity of the word 'hostility' in that setence as well. This could arguably range from physical violence to feeling of deep-seated ill-will towards non-believers.

The wiki article is incorrect in talking about hostility. Have a read of this instead: http://www.uga.edu/islam/ibadis.html

Whilst I don't disagree with anything he says about Islam, I am yet to see Democracy prove itself to be anything but a machine of perpetual violence and world intimidation. Same crap, different stink.

I am just going to say us a species is a bit fail when it comes to playing nice with one another.

Never heard of him or seen a video, but that one linked is great. Spot On.

Pat Condell is an interesting bloke, with a vociferous dislike of anything that smacks of organised religion. I think one will find that many English people would tacitly agree with much of what he says regarding the hypocrisy and sanctimoniousness of the major religions and their perpetual contradictions... *cough* ...and the problems we have with radical islam these days.

But there's one thing that appears to have been overlooked in this thread; all of his monologues have a basis in what he does for a living as a stand-up comedian. Taking this on board it seems obvious to me that he plays for the audience to some extent which sometimes ends in a rant.

Still, given the choice over Pat or some member of the MCB or the likes of omar bakri, I know who I'd prefer to have round for a cup of tea. The man might have some strong and cuttingly cynical views dressed with humour, but at least when it comes time for me to put the best china back in the cupboard, I'll still have my head intact on my shoulders.
