Path of Exile(diablo clone)

I just went for the early access package yesterday(couldnt wait and was bored this wkd). Only a few quid and as others have said its worth it if you cant wait. Looks like its going to be a great game. Been playing ever since. Feels more like D2 than D3 I think.

I'm getting lot's of lag spikes on the EU server but apart from that the game is ace much more of a Diablo II sequal that D3

I'm finding it hard to find out online what type of game this actually is. Some places say Diablo-like Action RPG, others specifically say MMORPG - surely if it's an MMO there's a persistent, open world with hundreds (or more) of players per server? Rather than a mere co-op RPG like Diablo.

I'd be really interested in trying it if it were an MMORPG.

No it's definitely more Diablo (but better, in my opinion ;)). You only see other players in the quest giver 'town' unless you're in a group then you can go through the zones with them.

That's the aspect of the game im really liking. It can be single player or you can get a group to help.. I like the fact you have a choice.. Though ill be pretty suprised if theres some bosses you won't be able to tackle alone....

Fair do'sto the guys despite some obvious rip-offs the game looks pretty damn awesome... the characters, monsters and world are very dark, and the huge passive skill trees and item system looks pretty innovative. Good stuff.

Just over a day until this launches(Tomorrow night). Anyone decided on a class yet? If so why, and also what spec?

I can't decide but I think I want to play a ranged class as I was a Monk in D3 so I'm a bit melee'd out. Plus I think ranged have it a bit easier in this type of game.

I'm thinking of rolling as a dagger/claw shadow, not 100% sure yet but I quite liked the shadows starting area, I have previously built one as a bow user/trapper and that worked fantastically.

I will have to have a look at the passive tree at some point and see what's changed since I have not played since probably September last year.

Finally, Open Beta time tomorrow. I can play without fear of another character wipe :)

Most likely go with my usual Ranger build, but I've always enjoyed "Minion"build characters (aka Skellymancer in D2).
Give me a shout if anyone wants to team up, account name is: janp92

Looking forward to trying this out soon.

I wouldn't call it a Diablo clone though, apparently it wipes the floor with Diablo III (which I did find massively disappointing).

Really enjoying the beta, its a direct copy of Diablo 3, every little detail they could possibly have stolen, has been, but then they have improved somethings, though others are worse.

Biggest and most improved is the skill tree, it actually has one! Looks crazy too, you can create some very interesting specs. Its no where near as polished as D3, but then its still in beta, so things will probably improve. Worst I've noticed is the map, it looks like a game from a ZX spectrum and that probably being slightly unkind to the ZX. Also the animations are somehow comical when you compare them to D3, its not that its bad, just not as good as D3.

Where this game really shines though is in the previously mentioned skill tree, it gives you multiple ways to play the same characters, all of which can be vastly different. The theory behind it is that rather than giving you full respecs they give you respec points, so you can try a skill out, don't like it, just remove it and go the other way on the tree. However, if you want to change your spec completely, its expected of you to re-roll another character. Not sure if they are going to sell things like repecs in the micro transactions store or not, but I'd expect them too at some point.

I really don't like the naming system, unique names are horrid, especially as numbers are classed as invalid characters in your heroes name :( A much better system would have been to add a secondary handle to give us an almost infinite amount of names. eg. wilderbeast@ocuk

I love the gems, they seem to work much better than the D3 fixed type ones, and the amount of customising you can accomplish with all the orbs and the like, is simply outstanding. So much more involving than D3. You have to laugh at the way the items are coloured the same as D3 and the elite mobs are also coloured the same as D3 :D

I loved D3, though it was disappointing in some areas, I really hope this delivers what we were all expecting D3 to give us, but fell short of in a few areas.
