Path of Exile(diablo clone)

I've been playing this for a good few weeks now, started a Marauder (me and my mate started at the same time and have been playing through together on Hardcore) I got to level 47 or something and were fighing a big boss dude in Chapter 2 (2nd playthough on Cruel) and I got totally smashed by one of the bosses. I was sat looking at my screen for a good couple of minutes . . . I was gutted.
But I got back on my horse and started an Ranger again on hardcore, and have just started chapter 2 on my first playthrough. Still really enjoying it despite dieing :(

There's some I think, but the more competetive side is mostly PvE - they have 'race' events all the time where you get (for example) 5 hours to start a new character and level it as high as possible in a new hardcore server (hardcore meaning death = character gone). At the end of the race, the winners get fun stuff and any characters still alive get moved to the 'parent' (e.g. normal hardcore) servers.

Some of the races are sprints, others are hefty month-long ones.

TBH unless you're on restricted DL or have very slow internet, I heartily recommend you download and play if for free and see what you think of it.

Is this worth trying guys? Never played Diablo but this game looks PvE centric, is there any PvP at all?

There is already arena pvp where you're up against another player and the first guy to win 5 rounds wins.

When the game gets released, in 19 days, they're adding guild tournaments, capture the flag and some sort of multiplayer skirmish team vs team play from what I can make out of the gamespot video.

*edit; This video has some of the features which will be added to the game when it launches.

Thanks for the info. Just had a look at some videos and is it basically running around killing endless mobs for loot? At least that's what i've gathered from what i've seen, the problem is if it's that then i'm already thinking i'll get bored within 30 or so minutes. :(

If you got bored of PoE in 30mins I'd just give up gaming tbh... :p

Awesome game, and its free...

Personally I can't wait to see where they go with it. The story and lore behind the island and all the characters I find the most interesting, and its not given to you either, you have to find it yourself which gives me a lot of nostalgia from diablo 1.

Plus its free, so anyone might as well give it ago.

Really enjoyed this game, kind of been itching to play it again this last week but remembering how annoying the game got post 70 is putting me off. Rerolled the same character about 7 times trying to work out a spec only to find out your build is fundamentally flawed and you'd need about 50 Orb's of Regret to fix it :/

Played it last night and enjoyed it quite a bit, makes a nice change from all the other games I play. The only thing is that all I feel like i'm doing is just going A to B while killing mobs and leveling gems. I have no idea what a good spec is, what gear to use and what gems to socket. The talent tree is ridiculous, it's the biggest talent tree i've seen in my life!

So am I missing something or is this the whole point of the game? Thought there might be an auction house and maybe multiplayer quests or something.

It's all about the builds. Trying different things to see what works, what gear compliments etc etc. The tree isn't that bad once you get used to it, though I'll agree it does look daunting to start with.

There are different ladders and races with different rules. For example a cut-throat race has pvp enabled so you can kill each other, whoever has the highest lvl at the end of the time period wins points and gear at the end of the season.

There is also a pvp arena accessible from the act 2 town.

EDIT: what I did when I first played was copy a build off the well known players (kripparian for example) and then play through with that until I got used to it all. Then started on my own builds. Good way to find the top players is to check the ladders on the POE site.

go check out their forum, there are thousands of builds on there. best thing to do. make your mind up what weapons/skills you want to use and then look around for a build :)

Won't lie, starting to get bored already. :(

made it to level 15 as a Marauder (I think) and I just cba to play it any more. It's not a bad game, it just feels so repetitive.

Well honestly what did you expect? Diablo, PoE, Torchlight, they all get repetitive after a while, its the game.

Great game, got a bit addicted to it, managed to get to lvl 92 on my ranger softcore and then started playing the onslaught league but died at lvl 92 too. Since then I have taken a break.

Might come back to it when the game is released to check the new content.

Really impressed with this. Torchlight was my first foray into the genre however and I haven't played any of the Diablos.

Playing witch and enjoy the "complexity" of the skills and passives with the "simplicity" of click and shoot.
