Cool. i didnt want to start playing it until it was pretty much complete

How many acts is planned? Just the 4 or more?

That depends on how you define "pretty much complete". It's certainly in a playable state and there's quite a lot of content, but some things are either missing or only sketchily implemented. Pretty much all multiplayer stuff is in a very early stage - communication between players is primitive, trading is primitive, etc. But the devs are working on all of it at a pretty brisk pace (e.g. they intend to implement trading via the website, which enables much better communication and doesn't require players to be online at the same time). They're also adding more base content, such as more items and more skills (primary and supporting), and there will probably be a lot more balancing to be done (especially when they add new stuff). It's a very playable beta, but it is a beta. They are planning to get to the full release version by the end of the year, but they're not planning on that being the end of development.

Act 4 is in production now and due out before the end of the year. Further acts are likely, depending on money. If PoE continues to provide the devs with money, they'll continue to make new content for it. There have been mentions of a rough plan for one new act per year.

Much is still valid.

The most fun for me in this game is experimenting with builds! I don't think you can go hugely wrong, you can get a good feel for a character early on and re-roll without much time loss!

I've played a bit with a ranger in Anarchy...and I'm not getting into her. Very effective, but while I'm playing her I'm thinking about playing Cynwulf, my marauder. It's partly that ranged doesn't seem to be appealing to me, partly that I'm very aware that I'm redoing a story I've already done, partly that I'm inclined to play one game with one character.

Play hardcore, you'll soon learn to not get attached to a character and enjoy more of what the game has to offer :D

Definitely recommend it after 1 play through of the story.

I'm starting a new character for the anarchy league. I'm going for a ranged attack character this time and I fancy an archer.

Anyone got any advice on what skills to use? The latest patch has changed quite a lot, so the pre-0.11 advice might not be valid any more.

2 main non-spellcaster ranged DPS options that I can see:

Archery - Take a duellist, not a ranger (the ranger start area's a bit poo, and a duellist or shadow can make a really good bow-user quite readily). Use Split Arrow and Rain of Arrows if you like physical; Frenzy if you like being a longbow-machine-gun, Lightning arrow (a bit popular for my liking) if you enjoy sparks. The combination of Fire Trap and Poison Arrow makes for an astonishingly powerful early build too.

Wand/dual wand - witch (or if going hardcore, maybe templar) - doesn't kick off until you get the Power Siphon attack, at which point it's pretty ace.

I'm still playing it a lot, but it seems the heavy streamers are slowing down and looking for other games.

I'm only playing hardcore and onslauight, 95% of my deaths come 30-50 with highest lvl52, i must suck, but i really love the game (20+ charcters re started)

I absolutely loved Diablo 3 and spent a silly amount of hours on it. Would I like this aswell?

Probably. There are people who dislike one and like the other, but there's a lot of people who like both.

At least you can try PoE for free. It's genuinely free to play - the only thing you can buy with real money that has any effect on the game is extra stash space, which is more a convenience than a necessity. All of the rest of the numerous extras you can buy for real money are purely cosmetic (glowing equipment, alternative skill and spell animations, pets that just follow you around, etc). Quite a few players do pay, usually when they've played for a while for free and decide a good quality free game is worth paying for :)

You can cheat by buying currency for real money from other websites, but that's nothing to do with the PoE devs.

RIP yet another character, my poor Ice Spear witch didn't even make it past level 50 this time haha.

I did manage to find the unique sapphire ring "Dream Fragments" though and luckily i popped back to town to put it in my stash before dying horribly. Should be worth a fair amount of currency as it's still in high demand :)

Now time to start a new character, gonna go for a bow duellist of some sort i think.

i still havent had a chance to play this, just wondering if its still beta and has all the intended acts/chapters been finished yet ? How many is there?

Cheers

Still in beta, currently 3 acts. Act 3 part 2 is due for release soonish I think and Act 4 is underway as well. Think they'll release it officially once Act 4 is done, but the open beta is a 'soft' release anyway, they're not planning any character/economy wipes unless there's some massive rebalancing. Think they're planning an additional Act every 6-12 months after that, up until Act 10.

That's the gist anyway, I could have details wrong.
