o.k just wondering if this is correct

I installed a fresh copy of win 7 64 bit ultimate on my laptop with its new patriot Inferno 60 gb ssd drive.

I done all the usual tweaks disabled superfech, defragmention, pagefile, drive catching is off, it cannot hibernate etc.

Now the laptop is running like a dream i,m very impressed.

so tonight i decided to run crystal mark on my ssd drive to make sure that everything was running as it should and i noticed that its says my SSD drives life is at 59%

The drive is New, less that 14 hours on it and all the above tweaks were carried out on it before it was allowed to do anything.

should the drive life be so low i,d expect it to be 100% seeing its new

any ideas ?????

thanks

The Patriot Inferno uses the same Sandforce 1200 controller as OCZ Vertex 2 drives.

The Vertex 2 drives have had a problem where low life is reported from new. Something to do with the fact that new drives start with a certain number of bad blocks purely from defects in the manufacturing process.

My Vertex 2 120GB for example has 768 bad blocks (reallocated sector count) from new and hasn't had any more in the 600 odd hours of powered on time.

OCZ state this is not a problem or indicative of premature failure and released a firmware update to mitigate the problem. As far as I know they just hid this initial bad block count. (I've not installed it yet as the updater can't find the drive on my computer..)

Could be the same problem with your drive. Is probably worth firing off a mail to Patriot to check :)

Here is a thread off the OCZ forums:

I should add that the drive now has 192 hours on it now and been powered up 105 times and the drive life is still at 59%
