Hi all this might be a quick one for someone here so its a quick to OCUK moment.

Right cutting a long story short I sold a item on the bay and it got lost by parcel force. Parcel force are shorting a refund out through insurance.

The user agreed to cancel the ebay listing so I could get my fees back etc which all went ok.

In the mean time my pay pal account had been used for other things and it took parcel force about a week to agree it had been lost by them. So my account had some funds taken out not a lot. Now i tried to issue a refund to the user but pay pal said I had to have the funds clear in my account and didnt give me the option to just take the money straight out of the account. So explained this to the user saying sorry etc but i've added the extra funds but pay pal are saying it might take 7-9 working days for the money to clear.

Now the user has opened a dispute which understandable they have every right to. The problem is that now my account is in minus by a few pound and by magic the option has appeared for me to issue a refund and pay pal will take the money directly out of my account. Like they should have in the first place.

My question is now that pay pal have taken the funds out of my account will refunding the user use the funds they have already taken or will they expect me to refund out of my account and then once the user is happy refund the money back to me. If this is the case I cant afford that sort of money if it is and they will use the money that they have already taken then its not an issues and ill refund the user straight away.

just mail the other person in the disputes mail thing and advise them you believe paypal have now refunded him, as the money has been taken from your account.

The thing is i'm happy to refund the user thats not the issue. All i'm trying to find out that in the dispute page there is an option to refund the user. Now will they use the money they have already taken or will they expect me to pay out of my bank account and then refund me once the user has said its ok.

I mean if its the second option I might as well esclate it to pay pal and then they should issue the refund out of the money they have taken. I just dont want the user to have to wait around for the money. The silly thing is if the user waited like another day or two it would have been refunded. According to pay pal they can take up to 20 days to sort this out once esclated.... crazy.

If you issue a refund now the funds will come from your own funds. The original money in the account is held by PayPal, not refunded to the sender, whilst a dispute is ongoing.

Maybe read some of PayPal's help pages, or give them a call..?

I was hoping that someone here had the same happen to them and pay pals pages arent to clear. Plus didnt think there phone lines were 24/7 when I orignally opened the post. Any ta for the advice Ill let pay pal sort it out now that they have taken the funds.

if you have a dispute running and funds held you can close the dispute by refunding - this refund will come out of money being held by PP

So basically your refund will come from the held cash.

See that was the sort of answer I was after but I wasnt able to find anything from pay pal to confirm this. Cheers for that
