pay to spend my own money :(

Do you believe that other people should pay for your expensive to process (and uncommon) banking habit?

Processing large amounts of coins takes a fair bit more time that processing notes or electronic transfers, someone's got to pay for your choice, should it be you or everyone else?

the rejected coins in the OP were sorted bags of £2 coins, all it would take is popping the bag on the scale and it would come up as right, they never count precounted bags, so it would be very little effort for them, and is really quite common, if you ask most banks for change bags, they will give you some as it saves them counting your change

The Barclays bank in Cardiff has a coinstar type machine but doesn't charge commision to use it. It goes straight into your bank account as well. They probably have them in other barclays branches.

They make billions of profit per year, but refuse to take coins, what a joke.

On a similar topic, went to pay for my shopping in Morrisons Supermarket, and was told they no longer accept cheques. Was a pita as it was the end of the month, few days before payday type of situation.

Not good for me. Signed up with nationwide, sorted all the internet banking out, then found i was unable to apply for a service over the internet, so made an appointment at the local branch, 45mins late, i was called in and told i can do this online and they won't be seeing me today. Complained and closed my account, ignorance and complete incompetence by local branch staff. They made me feel like I should be pleased they allowed me the privilege of banking with them.

Now with Co-Op bank, very nice people.

I'd recommend Natwest. Everytime i go in a branch they can't do enough for me. Absolutlely terriffic people.

I'd recommend Natwest too. Been banking with them for 20 odd years now and never had a problem with them. Its nice when you have to ring up their call-centres and you get and English (well Scottish :p) voice on the other end instead of an Indian you can barely understand.

Halifax DO allow you to deposit coins, they just prefer you to do like 3 bags a time or something silly.

They used to a Building Society but they converted to Bank a while ago. Lot of publicity at the time cause loads of customers landed a windfall when they converted.

Yet another Bank who are cutting back on services.

converted lolz?? thats one way of calling a merger with Bank of Scotland i suppose. Now known as HBOS.

If your bank is giving you grief....give them some. Claim back unlawful bank charges.

They're a bank, they deal with money, where does the line get drawn? £1 coins? 20p coins? 2p coins? You have to admit, they should provide this service regardless of the value the money holds.

I am with Lloyds, I know they are poor, but the important thing is, I know HOW they are poor. If I moved banks I would have to learn all over again how that particular branch is poor.

i actually have very few problems with lloyds, and even less with hsbc, although not being able to withdraw money with your card and id at the counter can be annoying at times

nationwide i found to be incompetent beyond belief and ladelled unfair charges on top of me for a mistake made by them in combination with 3(the phone network) which did then all get repayed by 3 or cancelled by nationwide, but only after i'd been in and had stern words with the manager

I'm thinking of moving from the Halifax... What are people's experiences with Nationwide?

I have been with the nationwide from when i was a lad, never had any problems, even refunded me some automatic charges when a cheque bounced and something else bounced when i went slightly overdrawn (i quickly got an overdraft after that). Great for when abroad as well as they dont charge you to use your card abroad. Also find their online portal easy to use.
