My brothers after a new phone and wants advice on which one to get. He has a budget of around £360...

What's the best option? I'd advise him myself but I have no clue. :D

Cheers

You can pick up a Galaxy S2 for that money which is still the best android phone out imho :)

I'd say so, yes. The battery life is a bit questionable at the moment but it seems okay.

I think this could be the one then. In regards to the battery life, is this something that is certainly software related and expected to be fixed soon do you know?

Cheers

The Nexus volume problem was fixed with a software patch ages ago. It's the best Android phone out there IMO.

The Verge said the Xperia S was OK, but not a patch on what it should have been (outdated hardware and software).

The Xperia S isn't a bad phone, but there are certainly other better options.

Upcoming devices like the One X, LG Optimus 4X, and Samsung Galaxy S III threaten to obviate the Xperia S' existence before it's truly gotten started, while the currently available Galaxy Nexus shows it up in the usability stakes. The Xperia S isn't a bad phone, it's just not particularly good at any one thing.

Tell him to get the HTC One X or S3 when it comes out. Buy it on the cheapest possible contract and pay the bulk amount up front for the handset and then when he can afford too, just cancel the contract and pay off the remainder.

If you do this via a cashback offer (and these offers pop up quite often) you can sometimes get a handset for cheaper then the PAYG price.

no way will that work out as 360 or less

Well the Nexus is around 320 and the Note around 340, although it won't be the same for a newly released handset. I paid around 450 for my Note at launch which was still almost £100 cheaper then it was on payg at the time.

If he has 360 saved, spend ~200/250 on phone and sign up to a £10 a month contract. Save up and in 6 months time cancel contract and pay off remainder. That's what I plan to do, again. :)

He's going to pick up an Xperia S from the 3 store tomorrow although I have read about a lot of the devices having dead pixels/yellow tints and yellow marks on the screen.

That sort of stuff doesn't bother him but everyone in the mobile section knows it bothers me, it's just incredibly frustrating you can pay a lot of money for something and major faults exist with a lot of devices.

Bet the phone is actually for you ;)

In a sense I wish it was because I'm having a nightmare with the 4S to. I know I'll feel like sending mine back when I see my bro's Xperia S in action but I'm going to have to hold myself back and get the 4S sorted out because I really do like the device.
