Paying to unlock content - RES5

It's pretty dumb, I don't mind it on Street Fighter as the DLC on that is apparently paying for the new online features being developed. (championship mode or whatever)
 
So they are basing the claim that it was already on the disc purely on the fact that the download size was only 1.5mb? How do they know that the main "content" wasn’t already added in one of the two patches (on ps3 at least) they've released for it so far - similar to how Little Big Planet and Burnout Paradise's DLC works. There's no reason for a key to be over a 100kbs either.

I don't like developers charging to access content already on the disc but in this case I don't think it was...

Capcom have pretty much admitted it! Its disgusting imo
 
if u look wasnt till the second patch the trophys turned up now the DLC has come out for it! so i think it was DLC!
 
The assets used by the addon such as character models, levels, textures, sounds etc came with the game, but all the code they wrote to enable the addon and provide the functionality has to be downloaded.

Why do people have such a hard time grasping that :\
 
hmm, I dont know exactly what the added content is, 1.5mb could be enough to rejuggle some scenes using current textures and models.

If though, it is infact just a patch thats unlocked something already in game, and its charged for it, That seems a little unfair
 
I hate how DLC on the xbox is so expensive. Bring back the days where downloadable content was free (pc *** :D)
 
Ah, Just used my brain and read the link in the OP. It's a versus mode.

So I can infact see how a 1.8mb allows people to do this. And I can see justification in the cost. 1.8mb doesnt unlock anything, It adds an option and uses the current game content in a different way surely, hense no large downloads.

Also If it was unlocking something already there it would be kb's in size surely lol

capcom and namco are both thieving gits. i will not be buying this out of principal, even if its cheap.

EA aren't exactly innocent in this regard too. Those Dead Space suits as well as unlocking cars in NFS Carbon, Courses and Golfers in TW07' 08' and 09' as well as various other series... Only way to stop the trend is to take a stand against it and not invest in said content. Unfortunately I cannot see the trend ending any time soon though... :(
 
Well if its not just PR spin and they did invest extra resources alongside game development to get this feature in place it does seem justifiable. The problem being it is hard to prove one way or the other if this would have been free had there being no DLC plans.
 
Well one way you can look at it, if you manage to buy the game brand new and for a wonderful price, like £20 or under if you are lucky and pay for the DLC later, at least this would work out cheaper than say, getting the game for £30-45 and add on top more ££'s for the DLC. :D
 
well they waited a while until they released versus didn't they? to try and make it appear as though they were still developing it.

its possible the 1.8mb is also a patch... would it be legal to crack the game to unlock the content as you already have it?

Also... not sure of the price in £ but I think IGN say that it is $3 cheaper in Japan cause they're less likely to buy it etc

Not true, if you went to compare trophies on the day it came out you could see all the multi player awards it wasn’t until the 2nd patch you could view them on the personal trophy screen.
 
Well get used to it because buying a game then being pretty much forced to buy add ons if you want to continue playing is the future...
 
Don't buy it!

It's times like these that they are 'testing the water' so to speak - seeing what the up take is for future game releases. Don't pay for it now and it's unlikely they'll do it again in future.
 
It's simple don't pay for any DLC ever in your entire life just like me.

The more people that pay the more games will be made with dlc in mind.

God soon they'll be charging us £40 to buy the game pay for dlc pay for xbox live and pay if we want to play the game online.
