Hi All

Right il try and keep this as brief and to the point as possible.

Received an email regarding a paypal chargeback request on saturday.

I sold an item via fb on the 23rd June, now this young lad is trying to get the money back.

Funny is part is, on his profile on fb you can clearly see the item on his car in his profile pic.

I sent it via unrecorded delivery, its a sticker so an envelope and 1st class postage was all that was needed.

So ive sent him a message on fb with a screenshot of the email claim and asked is everything ok....i can see the lad has read the message and not responded, so i kindly say, i can see youve read it, is there a problem...the little runt states his paypal is playing up...(first bit of BS)...so i then said will this be rectified as i can see the sticker looks great on your car (screenshot the profile pic)...he "yeah yeah all good mate" is the response...

Ive given him the whole weekend to sort it, messaged him this morning to see an update and i can see he hasnt read any of the last 3 messages (two were on the saturday just after his yeah yeah message to see when its being rectified.

Now its £12, this isnt the issue, its the fact that the guys got the cheek to do it discretly thinking i wont pull him up on it.
I have 10 days since saturday to comeback with evidence...ive taken screenshots of all of our convesations on fb...you can see the stickers, the pic of the address on the envelope and then the finished article on the car.

My point is, i have a bad feeling paypal chargebacks maybe automated by some senseless robot and il get sh&fted here.

So my question really is...has anyone been in this situation and the right things happened? Chargeback rejected?

If not, whats the plan of action...i hate being done over in any walk of life...and no not the poop in the letter box, the bloke lives up north with what looks like mummy and daddy....what could i do.

I will be interested to see what happens here haha.

Give them today and tomorrow to sort something out. Looks like you may want to save any evidence you have :p

Send him a link to these forums, after a couple of minutes he'll realise his letterbox is in danger and capitulate.

Haha sounds like a 2 day extension to his weekend of ignorance...tbh i deal with a lot of people, main people that cause me problems are the next generation...they expect the Earth for little payout....best one so far is sending me pics of their car and expecting me to know measurements from a picture....yes mate its 3mm by 5mm according to that picture....muppets.

I just dont like the fact that this little twerp will probably get away with this....but il have to suck it up, otherwise i may shoot myself in the foot with exposing via social media platforms

If it looks like the process is automated, then give them a ring - no harm in trying to explain the situation better.

Outside of ebay transactions, I didn't think paypal had much comeback with regards to siding with the buyer (iirc most of the protection is via ebay's resolution centre and it's integration with paypal)

Sent an email to the CS team with the chargeback info. Theyre supposed to respond within 24hrs, so theres 1 of the 2 days he has to respond haha.

Next stop tomorrow will be a call.

I looked on the phone directory as i have his surname and address, but i couldnt find anyone matching the road name etc.

We shall see

That's all well and good but you didn't send it recorded delivery which is required for your seller protection.

While I agree what he is doing is wrong, perhaps even criminally wrong, you didn't protect yourself to stop this from happening. Might be a lesson learnt scenario.

Hi mate, why would i send something recorded delivery thats £12? its a sticker.
I can see your point but id have to charge more to my customer?

If i clearly show that the guys sent me a screenshot of his payment to me, a clear pic of the package and then a clear picture of the product on his car...common sense should prevail?

I know what you mean though, but this is absurd how little runts can get away with this when all it takes is common sense...if anything he shouldnt have a leg to stand on with that evidence at my disposal

yup, always use recorded no matter how little the item cost. pass any shipping cost onto the customer.

hate to say it but its got to the stage where you cannot trust anyone not to shaft you.

PayPal & common sense - hahahah

Good luck but they will probably ask for proof of delivery, Ie a signature etc

Tbh id say 95% of the time i can trust the buyers...thats not on ebay...ebay the % is lower id say 70%.

Thing is this guy seems like hes a bit thick as i have all his details...pleading ignorance and generally thinking il go away is a school boy error on his part.

But yes common sense for the likes of paypal and ebay doesnt really exist.

We shall see, il be calling them tomorrow either way. Lets see what the CS rep has to say, if its not Wickes and O2 its now paypal to content with

Ive claimed lots back successfully via paypal with nothing to do with Ebay.

However, they arent as bad as Ebay and do listen to both sides.

I suspect with no proof of delivery the OP is screwed.

Even the pic of FB means nothing as who is to say that is the sticker the OP sent and not another one he owns already.

Whats a signature cost anyway? 80p?

Well OP could take the little runt to the 'small claims' court if he was successful with the charge-back, paypal decisions aren't the end... especially if OP has evidence he's been defrauded.

Should report to the police too tbh...

Recorded delivery isn't the answer unless the item is too large to go through the letter box. Over half my letters I send requiring a signature are not signed for.

If I really must get a signature (buyer seems dodgey) I have in the past strapped the item to a 14" square piece of card. :o

I may report the stickers as stolen then but then again i wouldnt want to waste police time, money etc.

To be fair, as much as people hate PayPal/eBay, I had an issue with a buyer and eBay were on my side. I provided evidence, they didn't bother replying and my money was unfrozen.
