Paypal email???

using avast free and malware bytes mate

do you think i should call paypal again just to doublecheck even though they said that they didnt send that email??

I've not used avast before, but I've heard it's alright. I use MalwareBytes and it usually picks up things.
It wouldn't hurt to ring Paypal again, at least that'll give you a second opinion and hopefully some peace of mind.

ok. ill give them a ring now and report back what they say

:)

I'd say it's definitely a fake; "Ping request could not find host info.paypal.co.uk. Please check the name and try again". It seems a bit dodgy anyway.
Just because a server doesn't handle ping requests, does NOT mean it's a scam/fake or whatever. :)

It is extremely popular to set up servers to ignore ping requests for security reasons.
That e-mail address would belong to info.paypal.co.uk, and that would belong to paypal.co.uk. However, there are no DNS records for info.paypal.co.uk, so that would indicate to me that it doesn't exist, and it's just a scam. But I've just Googled this address and some people are saying it's genuine, and some have even said that Paypal have told them that it is genuine
What do you mean there's no DNS record for info.paypal.co.uk?

If you're referring to whois information, there will be none because it's a subdomain. :)
Well at least we know the address is not genuine; I haven't a clue why some people (following a Google search), said that the e-mail address was genuine. Perhaps it was by sheer coincidence that they sent you the scam e-mail at the same time you transferred the funds, but it seems unlikely. Tried running an anti-virus and malware scan?
info.paypal.co.uk is a completely genuine address because it's a subdomain.

Unless a mail server is sending mails as info.paypal.co.uk -which is why I suggested a move to gmail because it will inform you if a third party is sending email using that domain alias.

It isn't handling/ignoring ping requests, it can't respond do them, because there's not an IP address 'linked' to it. For example, if I nslookup bbc.co.uk, it returns:
Code:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: bbc.co.uk
Address: 212.58.241.131

If I nslookup news.bbc.co.uk, it returns:
Code:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: newswww.bbc.net.uk
Address: 212.58.244.59
Aliases: news.bbc.co.uk

If I nslookup info.paypal.co.uk, there's no non-authoritative answer, because it can't find an IP address associated with it. I wasn't performing a WHOIS request.

You also say that the address is "completely genuine"; so why did the Paypal representative say they don't send e-mails from that address?

OP, have you tried forwarding the e-mail to [email protected]? I've just read this on the Paypal community website by a moderator there:

"Hey there, we do have a department here that can review any email you are unsure of. All you need to do is forward it to [email protected]. Leave the subject as it is and once reviewed you will be notified as to whether the email is genuine or not.

In regard to the email you have received. There was a draw done by PayPal where several customers won £10,000 and it was credited to their PayPal account balance.

If you are unsure though as I said forward it on to us here and we can review it.

Just an FYI about emails that you may receive. PayPal will always address an email to the full name provided on your account. We will never address an email to a customer with Dear PayPal member or Dear Customer etc. We will also never use your eBay ID or your email address to address you.

I hope this helps.
"

I'm sorry if this sounds extremely arrogant but he's wrong.

PayPal do use [email protected], but for certain subjects such as bank transfers or credit card related emails they do use [email protected].

They also use [email protected] for special offers.

what do you suggest i do?

ive called paypal twice and they say they havnt sent me an email from that email address

also ive called my bank and they say theres no way that that can stop a paypal transfer going into my bank account

Has the money disappeared? If so contact PayPal.

If it's still in your PayPal account, try adding your bank details again and then try depositing it again.

yeah the money has gone from my paypal account

and ive contacted them twice now mate and they say everything is fine

A non-authoritative answer is not because it was unable to resolve the IP address. Sorry.

A non-authoritative answer would suggest that it can resolve the IP address of it... I'm pretty sure I didn't say; a non-authoritative answer is because it was unable to resolve the IP address. An nslookup on info.paypal.co.uk, doesn't respond with any answer, so what are you on about? Sorry.

Then just wait 2-3 days, or whatever their time-frame is for bank transfers.

Nothing to worry about. My paypal balance is always shows zero straight away, but it takes 3 days to turn up in my bank account.

My point is that I could create a subdomain purely for email purposes and it won't respond to any pings or nslookups. I could send you an email from info.a-s-i-m.co.uk right now and it won't respond to any pings or nslookups.

So it's a terrible attempt at verifying a domain's validity, let alone an email's validity.

Sure they are trained to perform admin tasks and reply to queries on your account etc. I doubt the person you spoke to has much idea of PayPal's domain/email infrastructure or the automated addresses they use.

i see what your saying mate

if you look at the picture i provided at the start of this thread, would you say that it looks more like me trying to buy something using paypal and taking the funds from my bank

it doesnt say anything about me transfering funds from paypal to my bank though which is what im trying to do
