Hi all,
got an ebay buyer who has asked me to send him a paypal invoice.
I've sent it to him and he's already paid hte price (paypal fees).
Got an email from paypal saying the payment is held in escrew(?) until i send them confirmation of shipment.
Is this about the safest way to buy/sell using paypal? Does it protect me as much as the buyer?
Not used paypal invoicing before so not sure what to expect from it.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers :)

Invoice is probably so the buyer can put the item through work expenses.

Are your eBay ratings low ?, sometimes PayPal will hold the funds because of this, happened to me a few times in the past and it's bloody frustrating.

Either refund the buyer and forgot it, or continue with the sale.

Ok, so just emailed paypal and they got back to me (very surprised considering their phone service).
As I'm a new seller using PayPal (although not really) they hold payment until I prove shipping then they will, get this, release the funds to me with 21 days!!!
*** ****** paypal. Stick it up your gonga box!
Very angry (obviously)......plus the dog has just vommited all over the carpet.
GGGGRRRRRRR!!!!

No disguised swearing, I appreciate you may be frustrated. -Kol

It's a security check by PayPal.

I get it every now and then with PayPal - maybe one to two times a month out of 100+ transactions per month.

PayPal payment holds are typically placed on accounts that do not meet all of the following criteria:

90 days have passed since the first successful eBay sale.
More than 25 received payments have been completed on the site.
More than £165 has been generated in total sales.
If the account had been suspended previously and has been reinstated more than 90 days ago
The seller status on the account is Standard or above
Without any holds on the account, buyers’ payments will be available almost immediately.

REASONS WHY YOUR FUNDS COULD BE DELAYED
Funds could also be delayed if a higher than normal level of risk is associated with this transaction or with your account-for example a sudden spike in eBay Buyer Protection cases, PayPal disputes or claims, unusual selling activity, items with an exceptionally high selling price, or sales in a new category or a category such as electronics, tickets, travel or gift certificates. In addition, PayPal may place a hold of up to 21 days on payments based on a seller's account tenure, transaction activity, any past disputes and overall customer satisfaction. Looks like I've been had by a fraudster.
I received very legit looking emails saying to reply to this email only with the proof of shipping then the funds will be released immediately.
I posted the package then found some grammar issues within the email, contacted PayPal and they said it was a phishing scam.
Lousy lousy post office wouldn't let me have my parcel back, even though it was on the desk behind them and I had the receipt in my hand. Tell me where the hell is the sense in that?! Despite me being suckered it's them a-holes who have single-handedly cost me £500.
Even the Notts and London met police can't believe the PO's stupid policy on this, and they both advised me to complain, which I have, in spades.
Statements taken from Notts police. I contacted the met as its being delivered to Camden and was hoping they could intervene quicker.
Christ with the whole world knowing how rife Internet fraud is......the post office stick to their policy of absolutely NOT stopping a parcel from being delivered, even when I had the backing of PayPal and the police.
Unreal, surreal.

Highlighted the main areas. Not useful in the slightest to your plight, hope you get it sorted though.

First post says it's a scam and you went ahead anyway?
Oh seriously
A word one reply and I'm supposed to just take that as gospel.
The other replies indicate that the process of 'pending' is legit.
Unfortunately for me, this jabroni circumvented the process with a phishing email and hooked me in.

Yes, if you actually logged into your account to confirm the payment has gone through, it will show and be listed as pending. If no transaction appears within a few seconds of receiving the confirmation email, confirming the headers and such then it's a scam. Sorry you've been had at any rate.

Always, always check the ip address from a Paypal email.

http// p.aypal/imgonnascamyou is not a good sign.

Paypal will always use your account name, as oppose to a random ' Dear Customer '

Hope you get something sorted, but it doesn't sound good:(

Can't believe what I've just read :|

On the flipside I have no idea why email clients still hide away the full header data and don't make it easy to cross check the x-sender server details against the supposed sender its almost like they are on the side of the scammers :|

I'd be worried if it was PayPal gift. But as you sent an invoice and he paid it you'll be covered by their protection should anything dodgy occur.

And post by a tracked method to prevent any siding with the buyer.

Edit - read the update but doesn't make sense. Is the transaction saying as paid but pending in PayPal?

This one used my full account name.
But then the scammer/buyer would surely know that anyway as he received a PayPal invoice from me.
I've emailed him and told him I know it's a scam and the police have his details.
This way he'll not be expecting the parcel and the post office rang em back saying they will 'try' to withhold the parcel at the Camden depot, or at least not card the guy if they do try and deliver it.

Yeah, I absolutely hold my hands up to being a dufus. I'd not used PayPal or eBay in ages and lost my savvy with it tbh.
