Paypal verification - anyone done this before?

I was wondering if anyone here has done paypal verification process before?

I have recieved an email from [email protected] saying that my account was blocked and they require a copy of a passport and utility bill before they can verify my account - I really don't want to send my passport copy to USA and they seem to want a utility bill...which I just don't have yet since im living with the parents...

Has anyone else experienced this problem (getting blocked) when verifying their account?

I would have thought signing to their direct debit mandate (first step for verification) would have been enough to verify me etc...but it seems not.

==> the reason why im asking is because I paid a trader through paypal and they seem to want my account verified before they will release the goods :(

All feedback appreciated!

I have had to verify my paypal account due to a lot of money going through it and making sure im not laundering money, All i had to do was tell them hopw much money they put in my account again just like the first time i registered, That sound fake to me mate.

I'm fully verified with paypal and never had to send anything anywhere. To verify my e-mail they e-mailed me a link to click. To verify my bank details they made 2 small deposits into my account, and I told them the amounts.

This sounds like a scam, dont send anything anywhere and dont use any links in that e-mail.

Go to the main paypal site, with the usual URL, and follow the verification processes on their site.

Run away as fast as you can.

All you need to do to properly verify with PayPal is accept a bank transfer of two undisclosed <£1 sums, and then tell them the amounts that they transferred to verify that you own the bank account.

Thats not right thats sounds like a scam for identity theft , No company would ask you to send your passport.

When PayPal does verification you have 3 steps to complete. The first one is a
pincode that send to you via post and you have to enter when they telephone you by a automated call then they transfer two small amounts of cash (less than 30p)into your bank account and you have to fill in a webform with the amounts and date they got deposited on your bank statement. It's all done online and via post that they send you.

They never ask you to send anything.

Thanks for the reply everyone - it does seem a bit scary - but then again - my paypal account is blocked - here is the email as I have received it.

Dear xxxxx,

PayPal as a regulated financial services company is required under law
to assess its customers against certain lists of individuals and
entities which have had sanctions imposed against them. PayPal as a
financial institution is required to comply with these regulations in
multiple jurisdictions where we do business.

Where a potential name match is identified, PayPal's policy is to lock
the account and request further identifying documentation. The decision
to lock your account has been taken solely by PayPal in line with its
compliance policy in regards to the legislation covering financial
sanctions.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. To regain access to
your account, provide the following documentation within the next seven
days:

" A copy of a government-issued photograph identification (i.e.
passport, driver's license) that provides date of birth
" A copy of a utility bill verifying your address

Include the email address associated with your PayPal account on all
copies.

Fax the information to Attention: Compliance at +303-395-2802 or mail
the documentation to:

PayPal, Attention: Compliance
P.O. Box 45950
Omaha, NE 68145

PayPal currently does not accept scanned documents. Reply to this e-mail
with all questions at [email protected].

Hmmm....does appear to be legit, happened before.

We contacted PayPal with a series of questions. They confirmed that in Mohammed Hassan's case, his account will be closed unless he faxes his passport to them - action he told us he is not willing to take on priniciple. Unlike banks, PayPal does not require identity verification to set up an account.

Yeh it does legit now after doing a quick google search.

Although they seem to think it is very important to get this from you.

My verification consisted of them depositing funds into my bank, I confirmed the amount, they then rung me to confirm all details.

They will want a utility bill to prove your address. Passport for identity.

Ah so the penny has dropped.

I see the list (downloaded from link) and my name is not on it - and there is no way it can be associated with it - and as for the guy in question he gets 30 days to resolve his account and im given 7 lmao...what a farce.
