PC Build for BF1 - £500 possible?

Hello everyone,

I am hoping you might be able to help me! 4 years ago I came to these forums after deciding to get back into PC gaming and asked for a PC spec for a £550 budget. I went with all the recommendations and build my first PC which I still use to this day - although the gaming has reduced a fair bit which is why I have never upgraded.

Anyway, I played the BF1 beta last week on my X1 and the game was too good to play on console, I miss the use of mouse + keyboard and would therefore like to try and get a PC for playing BF1. I'm moving into my first house at the end of the year so my budget is around £500. I could stretch slightly if I absolutely had to but would rather not. As with my other build I am not looking to be able to play with all settings on ultra or anything like that, I would just like to be able to run the game with a smooth frame rate on medium settings or something like that.

I am totally out of the loop on hardware now and have no idea if this would even be possible? After the great help I received last time I thought I would come back and try my luck again :)

Thanks in advance
Dan

edit : forgot to mention - no O/S required this is simply for the tower (i can get a new monitor at a later date as mine is 8 years old :D)

Hi Stulid - no I am happy to build it again, wasn't too bad last time and enjoyed the learning process :)

In terms of my old pc just checked my post history and this is what i ended up with :

VTX3D HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX)
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
1 x GeIL Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC)
1 x XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
1 x BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
1 x BitFenix Spectre 120mm Fan - White

Thanks for the help, really appreciated :)

You could re-use case, PSU, RAM, HDD, optical and case fan, adding the below.

You could swap to a 3GB 1060 for the graphics card to get under £500 but I feel the 3GB will be limiting for the future. It would be nice to go for an 8GB RX480 but the budget doesn't quite allow, the 4GB should be good for 1080p gaming for a good while though :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £510.96
(includes shipping: £0.00)

You can do far better than that. Just get a second-hand i5-3xxx (around £100) and then a 6 GB GTX 1060 or 8 GB RX 480, maybe even a GTX 1070.

Yep, the GFX card alone will be a massive increase even if you tried it first on your i3, then got the other bits later.

Bit over budget but you have 16 GB of DDR4 which will help with future proofing, I would buy the graphics card first like Stulid said and see how it goes . Ocuk have offer at the moment you get the BF1 Deluxe upgrade for free with the card (just the upgrade not the game) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lp/amd-battlefield-1.html

Better CPU with this build you could ditch the SSD if you are happy with your current harddrive then get RX 480

This is ideal, and probably what I'd go for (as the AMD cards are def going to run BF1 well :))

Hi guys,

Bit of good news - can stretch my budget a bit now to £600 for the components + i have an extra £200 which i'd like to spend on a monitor + case

montior size doesnt matter, i use a 19" atm and find that absolutely fine.

So i guess £800 all - anyone got anything further they could add? Will look to order today!

Cheers

Have you overclocked the 7850? I know the new ranges are better, but what you got is meant to be a great overclocker.

You probably be better with a 1150 build, can get good deals on kit for the budget.

Get yourself a GTX 1070 and an i5-3xxx or i7-3xxx CPU and spend the money you save on a better monitor.

Can you overclock a K-version CPU on that motherboard?

So £800 for,

SSD
CPU
Mobo
RAM
Video card
Monitor
Case
Overclockable
Last a few years

If you shop around and can stretch the budget slightly it's possible.
