TOTAL: 616.93, inc vat. you get free postage :)

Annoyingly, I can't post baskets all of a sudden. 17 quid over budget, be a mate and give your bud the extra couple of quid ;)

But 970 and overclocking on the i5 = win!

Does anyone know what the performance difference is between a GTX 960 2GB and a GTX 970? Would a 970 be fine on a 550W PSU

970 spanks a 960 - just google some benchmarks, there's plenty of them! A 550W psu would be plenty for a 970 - provided it's a quality PSU. Hell, even a decent 400w PSU would do the trick, but it doesn't leave you much wiggle room for upgrades and/or overclocking. Either of the PSU's specced above would be more than upto the task.

They trade blows as far as I'm aware. I think the 290x beats it at 1440p and above though. I wouldn't be so sure about running a 290x on that PSU, it pulls a fair bit of power, and I think the VS series are corsair's bottom of the barrel psus.

I do want a good quality 970 though I hear the zotac can give a fair bit of coil whine I don't mind paying more for a better brand

Any suggestions

Cheers

Just really conflicted on what to do next really - Could probably get a card with more power for £250 from the MM rather than buying a new 970 - If I do buy a new 970 as I said before I'd want a good brand but it seems that non can be free from coil whine

Is the 970 much better than the 290

Or are they the same - If so I could pick up a 2nd hand 290 for about £150
