PC/Console gaming via VR - just a gimmick?

3d was rubbish from the off.. VR is showing promise imo.. Whether that is ever going to amount to anything to the masses is another matter (possibly not). I hope so though as I personally enjoy already what it has to offer.
 
I found this thread quite an eye opener. Being on a couple of FB VR groups and reading the VR/vive reddit subs everyone is all excited about upcoming releases, what games and experiences have blown them away etc so I found it quite surprising to see how many negative comments are here. Out of them though i wonder who have actually tried it and who is just being critical without even giving it a fair go.
 
Prices will have to come down, only really see it being successful is if Sony and MS push them big time for the consoles. I would like one but VR would have to be less than £300.
