My pc an old evsham has suddenly stopped working there is power to the base unit (green light around start up button) but when depressed nothing happens
having swapped the PSU this has made no difference nothing happens inside the PC.. is this a problem with the actual power swtich ? and if so how can it be fixed.. OR is there anything else I can try to see if I can get it to power up?

Any help appreciated

:)

Instead of using the power switch, you can short the jumpers on the motherboard with a screwdriver in case it's just the power button that has broken. Just find the 2 pins that the "Power Switch" plugs into from the case and touch them together with a small screwdriver which should start the computer.

I ordered all the parts from one supplier and the case from another once and the inerds arrived first so for a few days that was the only way to turn on my pc that was just laid out on the desk on antistatic bags

I should really be more patient.

In response to the OP could be your mobo by the sounds of it

Thanks for the replies I have tried to short the connections for the power button but again there is no response just a light which comes on around the actual power button... this is present which ever power supply I connect be it the original one or the one that I know works in another pc.. Does this mean that the chances are its the actual mobo that is dead?

Or an alternative to test a Power switch is to use the reset switch and plug that into the mobo where the power switch usually goes, and take it from there.

I assume you are also getting no POST beeps? (and you have a speaker connected to the motherboard jumper header of course). If that is the case, then you have switched the PSU and the new one isn't working, and also tried forcefully starting it with a screwdriver to short the power switch header, then you could be looking at a piece of dead hardware... either cpu or motherboard.

Can you test either of those parts in difference machines? That would be ideal and perfect for resolving this issue.
