PC died - Trying to figure out which part is broken - Advice needed please

Indeed we are!, I'm hoping that both your MOBO's are dead, then at least we know that's the problem haha :)

You want to know something else funny aswell, because nothings gone right for me the whole way...I was struggling to get the new motherboard out the case because you know when you install a new mobo, you insert those little gold screws into the case first, the mobo sits on top of them, and then you put little screws through into the gold ones, well when I was turning the silver screws on top to undo them and take the mobo back out yesterday and today I couldnt get the mobo out because it was turning the gold ones underneith and it wasnt unscrewing, so I was like OMG WTH!!!!!

But eventually managed to get them out, but just another thing to go wrong for me, typical! lol

lol you dont get much luck at all.

how you finding the new X3 pc? i just upgraded my system from an X2 unlocked to X3 and found it pretty decent for gaming.

Seriously am loving it, BC2 is so much more fluid now, I can feel it, infact, its made me realise that I didnt know before when I was playing on my old PC how much slower it felt, it just feels so much more smooth/fluid now. I can feel it in my hands with keyboard and mouse if you know what I mean.

It's hard to explain but if your gamer you prob understand. I feel like I've got an advantage now in BC2 coz of how it feels, when I was playing last night I was owning, even tho I only played for 5-10 mins I was doing good, but that was at like 1am or something and I was knackerd so went to bed. Didnt really get chance to play on it yesterday so gona proper do some hardcore bc2 today and some sc2 later when I get bored of that.

My last PC I thought was good because it ran all the latest games in high settings, not ultra, but high, but this PC just feels 10x better and so much faster. It's nice to have a fresh install too coz my old rig had windows on it that hadnt been reinstalled for probs over a year and was full of software/games and files.

there is a difference between running at high and being happy at high. but you dont realise as it feels good, until you play it on something 'better'. you will find with better response from the computer you will get more accuracy and the timing will be better. which you gain on the older pcs by dropping to medium settings or a lower res. i think in the end, the upgrade will make you happy, but nothing is more frustrating than knowing you did everything and still couldnt get the damn thing working.

Yeah I agree, I think I've always put settings on high when I could have prob lowered them and got an extra 10fps because a little bit more juice goes a long way in hardcore FPS gaming!

And yeah I was getting really down and depressed over those 5 days coz I felt embaressed that I couldn't fix it myself, coz everyone in family always asks me to fix their PC and laptop and I do, so why the hell arent I fixing my own, thats what I thought. Made me feel like a complete idiot but I was prob quite harsh on myself and now that am back online and more relaxed again and probably thinking more clearly because I dont think I did anything wrong really now that I look back on everything we tried. I didnt have spare parts or a friends PC to work with so was limited really to what I could do to diagnose the problem, but thats why I went out and bought all the parts.

I dont know if you know what this is, but am cutting at the moment which means am eating extremely low carbs and that makes me all down and depressed too which didnt help the situation. I been cutting for 62 days and lost 18lbs so far, am in pretty much the best shape I've been in since I was 18 and am 27 now!

Cutting + Extreme heat from the almighty SUN! + no PC = Nightmare/panic attack/extreme violence! lol

dont be hard on yourself. i get a few in where i have tried everything and it just doesnt make sense. everyone gets it, and there are instances you will never know what the cause was. but you have a semi-happy ending as a result so it wasnt a complete nightmare.

I just never thought this would happen to me or that it would be possible for me not to fix a PC, coz in the past I've always fixed em when PSU die or gfx fried. Or when my CPU was overheating and I sorted that problem out too.

Had probably 3 hard drives die as well over past 12 years or so, they seem to last 3-4 years on average for me, thats why I always backup my stuff now.

i do this for a living and have a whole workshop of tools and spare parts, but some just beat you.
atleast it happened on your pc so you didnt have the pressure of rushing it and having to find the fault. now you have your new pc you can relax and do it as/when you have time and see if you can find out what was up.

I just hope the MOBO is the problem, if it's not I have no other ideas on what it could be... Also I wouldn't know where to go, I guess I would have too try and RMA-Refund all of my parts and buy a bundle?? :(

Thats what I was gona do, get a bundle off OCUK, just a cheap one, even cheap ones are good tho, I saw one for £240. They'd still run all todays games in high settings with good graphics card.

...BTW I just spent last 2 hours stripping out the HP setup and transfering it all to my new shiny coolmaster case, I was a bit worried something might go wrong but am up and running so panic over. :D

Didn't get chance to take my mobo back today for other PC, need to get a lift coz its in bradford and I dont drive, thinking I'll prob get a lift off a friend within next 3 days. Will post back.

This happened to me on my recent build. Had to use a combination of pliers and small flat screwdriver to separate the screw from the standoffs. Not the most ideal start of the build. I'm sure I'll encounter a repeat issue the next time I upgrade but at least I'll be mentally prepared for it.

Well people!!...I been to shop today and took mobo back, the guy tested it straight away on a work bench, and guess what!?!?!?! It works!!!!

What the ???? !!!!!

LOL

Seriously, I dont think we'll ever work out this little mystery, its like god is making it not work on purpose and toying with us! sweet jesus.

Well I don no what to say now, but straight away I started thinking well what if it was the ram? maybe when I went and bought that one stick of ram, maybe that stick didnt work for some reason.

hmmm

Yeah mate I had to do the same thing, hold the gold screws still at the back of the case with pliers and unscrew with screwdriver from other side, was fidly to do but managed it in the end.

sux that the board tested good. maybe you were just unlucky and something wasnt quite connected right. atleast you have a working pc now, which from what i gather is better than the non working one, so you have that to cling to.
i think the hot weather isnt helping. not just for the computers but the users too. i have had no end of problems with mine in the last couple of days, and 90% of them have been coz i have been hot so rushed it and not taken care in what i was doing. the other issue, well thats bugging me so i will wait til im less annoyed with it.

That's just ridiculous! :( Well I've had my board RMA'd again so hopefully this one should work... If not I'll be buying a bundle of some sorts :)

Would it be possible to take your build that is having the problem to the shop? So they can test it with different parts and have their take on the situation?

Really want to know what the problem we are both experiencing is... :)
