Pc gamer agazine so thin?`

Stick to Total PC Gaming magazine - same amount of content all year round.

Cant argue there - best pc gaming mag by a mile these days. PCZ kinda died after their little "re-org" and gamer is so light on content its unbelieavble they are still in business.

Haven't bought a PCG for a while now. Picked it up a couple of times in WHS and mused on how thin it was compared to years gone by. Being shrink wrapped doesn't endear me to buy it, I know this is to deter the "lunchtime library" brigade in WHS etc. but I want to see what I'm buying.

In its heyday, PCG and indeed PCZ provided decent night table reading for the best part of the month and well worth keeping for future reference. However given the penchant for conflict of interests with the advertisers and publishers, if there's a game I'm unsure about I'll wait and pick through the user reviews on Rainforest for a better picture.

thing is with magazines, you only buy them either like the OP when your hospital or on a plane or something where you cant get on the net.

I take a look at the PC games section on OCUK once a week, and within the first two pages I pretty much know everything I need to know about new releases etc. Failing that, theres another 5 sites I could name of the top of my head to get everything + more found in any edition of PC Gamer.

Reminds me of when the Amiga was on its way out the mags just got smaller and smaller. Before you start It's more the internet than PC gaming dying I think.

Why do they even bother with DVDs though anyone who has a high spec PC that plays games will have downloaded anything they want before anyway ?

Excuse me!

I get my game reviews and previews from gametrailers + zero punctuation!

Oh and Blues News & 1UP :D

tbh stopped buying PC game mags when they stopped putting good demos on the disk.
back when I was at school you had about 5+ demos of games (big and small) on each disk!

Well now ive actually read through this edition (octobers) I must say i am appaled. There was barely any content worth reading in it, most of it was drivel i really dont care about. You should see how they handel the writen in letters now. One of them complained about how poor pcg now is and how childish. They printed it with no reply. All the others had sarcastic replys to them taking the ****.

Total pc gamer it is!

:EDIT:

i know the internet is a great source of info on games. But there is somnething nice about reading through a gaming magazine. I don't really buy them to see what games to get, just some reading material really as i rarely read these days. Though this would be the first magazine ive got now in probably 7/8 months, Very dissapointed.

Yeah, I stopped buying it after their Witcher review, and their response to all the complaints about the low score they gave it. Rather than try to justify their review, they basically just took the **** out of anyone who dared to disagree with them.

Arrogant gits.

I'm another subscriber to Total PC Gaming. I used to get PC Zone but the last one I got was little more than a pamphlet, a bit like the US edition of PC Gamer. PC Gamer UK seems to be going the same way.

PC Zone and PC Gamer are both owned by the same publisher now, and you often see very similar content in both (even down to the artwork).

It's a real pity, Zone used to be the definitive mag at one time.

Yeah they were more down to earth. It was like just a bunch of blokes got together and played some games and wrote about them.

PC Gamer right upto 2002 were pretty decent. But I think they did a few management changes thereafter, and a writer shake up, and it hasn't really been the same since really.

Because they're FREE!!!! ;)

No, actually I stopped buying these paper mags for the same reasons already stated. I do pick them up in the shop to see if there's anything of interest mentioned on the plastic. The only thing I spotted on Gamer was the Wolfenstein review. PCZone a week later, no Wolfenstein review. We've all finished it no? Hurry up & die mags, we don't need you.

I cancelled my subscription after the high score pore got such a high score for such an appalling game.
