PC games sales up 230%. Console game sales down 28%

In fact I'd say they're less mature. There is far less fanboy **** in the console forums than there is in here :(

Thats because most people posting in PC Games don't bother with the console gaming sub forum, we do however get our weekly "PC gaming dying?" thread and other such shenanigans being brought here.

Also your figures you quote on your first page to show differences in actual revenue compared to % differences... I notice you neither include pc hardware (even just what could be classed as gaming hardware) or Steam in that. As has been said, if PC gaming is really dealing in a few million here and there compared to the $100s of millions that consoles do, then Gabe Newell is clearly the head of some drug cartel or something on the side as hes worth upwards of $1.5 billion alone.

When you say 'you' you mean the article right? They aren't my figures and it's not my article! And several others have said they're not accurate, but these things never are.

Not to mention a wider spectrum of gaming, are the millions of people who play farmville on their laptops considered PC gamers? There is an awful lot of money spent on games like that too.

That's because this is mainly a PC forum, outside of it you'll find that there are a significant number of console zealots that are even worse and spout such terrible nonsense it would give you a head ache.

"There's no way PCs have better graphics than consoles, consoles are much faster than PCs and look much better"

"have you even played a maxed out PC game?"

"No because they're **** and look ****"

The real problem here is morons.

As for the main topic of this thread, the numbers aren't particularly valid for many reasons.

The console sales include ALL consoles, PS3, Xbox, Wii, 3DS and PS Vita, a fair amount of old console games are probably bought too, it also includes hardware and accessories so it's of absolutely no surprise at all that it looks a lot bigger on paper.

It's very hard to track PCs in the same way, simply because there's so many variations and so many people build their own, but if you did include hardware sales for PCs, I have no doubt it would be well in to the billions. PC Gaming is looked at as some kind of niche, but it's not as small as people make out.

Additionally, as others have said digital only sales aren't being included here which is a significant portion of sales. Considering you can't really buy many PC games from "high street" stores, a lot of people will have gone mostly if not completely digital distribution only.

Generally PC gaming isn't dying and hasn't been dying despite the fact that it's constantly repeated, I think this is just a ploy by retarded publishers to try and stifle the PC market because they don't have they can't control it the way they do with consoles, add to that kids are more likely to have consoles due to cost and are also morel likely to have games bought for them by family members who know no better (as in buying **** games because they're ****, not because they're on consoles).

In short, PC gaming was never dying.

Edit: **** is censored? Whose idea was that? :(

If it's censored then why are you trying to get around the filter? Not a good move, suggest you have a read of the FAQ before you end up banned.

It used to be like that here too. I guess the current consoles have been out for so long that people have just lost interest in arguing which one is better any more.

I mean, nobody even bothers to post virtually identical comparison pictures of cross-platform games for people to pick apart unnecessarily any more.

Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this, only skim read the thread, but wanted to point out that the current gen of consoles are nearing the end of their life cycles. PC always has a few people jump ship once the consoles start getting a bit stale then most jump back onto the console wagon when the next 'playbox 9000 mega machine' is released.
This has been happening for years now, I can remember the last time when it was the PS2, the GC and the brick Xbox.

I dont know why people are comparing the sales figure for "video-game hardware -- a.k.a consoles -- software and even accessories" against the sales figure for just games on PC.

According to industry analyst NPD Group, sales of video-game hardware -- a.k.a consoles -- software and even accessories fell for a sixth consecutive month in May, tumbling 28% from a year earlier to $517 million. And with the release of Blizzard's (ATVI) Diablo III, May also saw the first time since July 2010 that the top-selling game was a PC-only title. That boosted PC video games sales up year-over-year to 230% or $80 million.
